What is a DEO (Deduction of Earnings Order) from the CSA?

April 30, 2008

A DEO is a deduction of earnings order from the child support agency. This is when they contact the employer of the non resident parent to get the money they want removed from their earnings BEFORE they are paid to the employee.

The CSA has full authority to do this and does not need to go to a court in order to get approval. If an employer refuses to comply the CSA can impose a fine upon them.

From the child support agency’s website.

Although the decision to apply a DEO is taken by us and not the courts you would be committing an offence under section 32(8) of the Child Support Act 1991 if you do not comply with a DEO. This could lead to a prosecution and a fine.

If you appeal a DEO the CSA will generally not suspend the deduction of earnings order while the appeal is being heard, and they also do not care how much money you will be left to live on.

Speaking to payments department will not help as they’re sole interest is in recovering money they believe they are owed by the non resident parent.

Many fathers have been left with no option but to quit their jobs when faced with a DEO as they simply do not have enough money to live on.

Fathers who killed themselves because of the CSA

April 30, 2008

This video is harrowing. It features a list of fathers who have committed suicide after being hounded by the child support agency. The deaths of these men are on the hands of the CSA and the government, and the children they have left behind must now live without their fathers in their lives.

This terrible waste of life is continuing today, and will go on until the child support agency are held accountable for their actions.

Waliu and the child support agency part 2

April 29, 2008

Yesterday we posted the first part of Waliu’s story, a father who isn’t permitted to see his son yet has to pay over £400 per month for his ex and her new husband.

This is the second part where Waliu gets very emotional, understandably, as he pours his heart out about his dilemma, the money he having to hand over, the extra work he is having to take on and most importantly the fact that he cannot see his child.

Father Waliu talks about the CSA and his son

April 28, 2008

This is a real cry from the heart as father Waliu talks about how he’s paying over £400 per month for his son, his ex and her new husband. He’s working all the hours he can just to provide another man with some spending money, and he doesn’t even get to see his son.

Waliu asks the question why must we pay for children we’re not permitted to have access to?

It’s not the government or the law courts that say Waliu can’t see his child, it’s the child’s mother. She doesn’t need a reason as they never do. They have the power to say no, you cannot see your child. The father doesn’t have the power to fight it, or the right to say why should I pay if I’m not allowed access to my son?

This is part one of the video. We’ll post part 2 tomorrow.

Darren Standen on BBC News

April 28, 2008

If you remember a previous news item where we talked about Darren Standen and the fact that the CSA took 11 years to process his claim, you’ll be interested in further news on that case.

Firstly the mother of the child, and Darren Standen’s ex has commented on the post claiming what he says isn’t strictly true. You can read her opinion on the matter here.

Now a video of the news footage from the BBC reporting on Darren Standen’s case has been uploaded to video sharing website YouTube. You can watch this here.

Child Support Agency Strike

April 26, 2008

April 24th this week saw parents in the UK having to take a day off as teachers throughout the country went on strike. Despite the 12 weeks a year holidays and the working day of 9:00 – 3:30 they felt they deserved more pay and disrupted the whole country.

It wasn’t just teachers that went on strike, as April 24th became the biggest day for industrial action for two decades within the public sector. The coastguard, Job Centre, Benefits Agency workers and of course the Child Support Agency all went on strike.

One 24-year-old mother said:

I do not think any teachers should go on strike. I have been sent a letter warning me about my children missing school and then some teachers go and have a day off themselves.

Once again the needs of our nation’s children are put on the back burner by teachers and the CSA in favour of their own monetary desires.

Doctor Who chased by the Child Support Agency

April 25, 2008

According to Russell T Davies, the man behind the return of the Time Lord to our screens, even the Doctor isn’t immune from the reach of the child support agency. In this new series, currently airing on BBC 1 on Saturdays, the Doctor will find himself ‘with child’ and Russell T Davies says the CSA get involved.

The Child Support Agency is involved, says Davies. Donna is “literally like Jiminy Cricket on his shoulder, telling the Doctor what to do as a father. She says, ‘I’ve seen men like that round our estate, with pushchairs and prams. You’ve gone into dadshock.'”

You can read the full interview with Russell T Davies here.

You’d think being a 900 year old Time Lord with the power to travel in time and space would be enough to make the CSA’s computers at the Birkenhead office go into meltdown. Also, as the Doctor doesn’t actually have any earnings, how can they impose a DEO (deduction of earnings order) on him?

Was Shannon Mathews’ mother a benefit cheat?

April 25, 2008

It’s been alleged that the mother of abducted schoolgirl, Shannon Mathews, was cheating benefits. Karen Matthews, 32 has been arrested on grounds of kidnapping her own daughter while her boyfriend, Craig Meehan, 22, is being held on suspected child porn charges.

Karen Mathews claims she never received any child support from any of the fathers of her seven children, and that she was living alone, despite actually have lived with Craig Meehan for four years while he was earning a full time wage.

Whether the CSA were involved in her seven children is unknown, but the department for work and pensions are investigating the benefit cheat claims.

One of Shannon Mathews’ neighbours said they knew she was cheating benefit and that they’d reported her:

I reported her three times but nothing was done. She was putting in claims that she was living on her own but in fact Craig was there all the time. It’s been going on a long time.

You can read more about this on the website for the Sun.
