CSA making things worse with my ex
My ex partner decided, 5 years ago, that we were to split up. We have 2 children together and when we split, I kept all of the debt and set up a standing order to her bank account for a mutually agreed amount.
Since the law changed in April of this year, she has gone to the CSA who seem to want to more than double the amount I pay, despite me still paying off the debt we had together – I have written back to them to request that the monthly payments I’m making for the joint debt are taken into consideration when calculating the payment – is this something that they should be open to?
Also, I am about to leave employment (the new government have wiped out all of us NHS workers) and potentially receive a severence package – will the CSA expect 20% of this too??
Help!!

To make allowance for the debt, you will have to prove that your ex has exclusive use of whatever the debt was incurred for. In most cases this is impossible.
They will take any salary paid in lieu of notice of termination of employment, but as far as I am aware they cant touch any redundancy pay as that is compensation for loss of employment not earned income.
