CSA double their demands over night!
My husband has just been reassessed by the csa. He was paying 400 a month for his two children. We expected this to go up but we were stunned to discover it has gone up to over £800 a month. This is based on the fact that until recently he has worked lots of overtime.
However, that won’t last but we will still be paying a huge sum out. To make matters worse they won’t accept that he is supporting me and my son and that we have extortionate travelling cost for work as we live in a remote island and travel to mainland Shetland daily for work. His ex wife went against the divorce agreement and took the children to live in Yorkshire and it now costs us over £2400 a year to see them. To add insult to injury they have backdated this amount and we suddenly have a debt of £1600 we had not expected and have not budgeted for.
I am outraged that they do not accept that my husband supports my son. When my eldest son went to university my husbands earnings were assessed for his student funding despite the fact my eldest son had never lived with him. So some parts of the government consider my husband to be supporting my children whilst the csa does not. My ex husband meanwhile has left the country so we do not receive anything to counterbalance our payments to csa.
This is no exaggeration but we are likely to lose our house over this. We have been struggling for years with debts incurred from my husbands previous life which again have not been taken into consideration. We do not live a luxurious lifestyle. Our cars are ancient and God forbid they breakdown now as we won’t have the money to fix them. We have had to borrow money in the past to travel to mainland Britain to attend family funerals.
How humiliating that was! We struggled with £400 per month. This new payment is straw that will break the camel’s back.

Hi Frances Valente,
Your OH could apply for a variation to take into account contact expenses with his children.
Did your OH case commence on or after 03/03/03 OR before?
