Will CSA take money from my car allowance?

I have a private arrangement with the mother of my child and pay 15% of my income every month and work this out through the online CSA calcuator. Im in the position that i need a Car for my work and have been offered a car lease opportunity through my employee.

It will mean that they will take a fixed amount from my pay, reducing my monthly desposible income. Will my monthly payment to my child’s mother be 15% of whats left, or will it be the original arrangment, not taking into account the car lease ?

Any support or advice will be greatly appreacitated.

  1. I can tell you for a fact they will use your car allowance when asessing you for sure..I know because they screw me for it too…its not fair as you say as this is needed for your work…but these arseholes include it as well as its a taxable income..I get a £400 a month allowance that has to pay for a car lease as well as fuel it and insure it and now the csa want a slice of the pie as well..so I am in negative with it.it actually cost me money to run my car.I have no choice but to buy a second hand car in Nov instead of renewing the lease for a new car.
I think if you use your vehicle mostly for your work ? ie if you were a mobile engineer ect..they may reduce what they take?.but in my case I used to have a company car and be on the road, the company asked me to change roll and be a “onsite” engineer that didnt warrant a car..but as it was part of my contract package they gave me the allowance instead.but because i now only use my vehicle to get to and from work..the csa are not interested. So you will be robbed of 15% of your salary after tax and NI . They rob £320 a month from me for 1 child

  2. Been There, Done That………………………..thankfully my case closed in July but I still look in here from time to time.

The way I mentally dealt with it all is by breaking down the monthly payment into a daily rate. £320 is £10.52 per day……………..Wouldn’t even feed a child never mind the rest of the stuff needed……………………Looking at it this way really helps the anger.

  3. The car allowance MAY be taken into account if it is used wholly and exclusively for work.

In other words, if you use it for anything other than work, the possibility of it being allowed as an acceptable expense is pretty much nil.

  4. The CSA will take into account anything you receive through a car allowance as it is a taxable benefit, as you should declare it for tax as well. This means you could be worse off after being given the car. It’s harsh, but that’s how they role 🙁

  5. exityboy – Mate you also have to think that it’s £10.52 x 2 as they should be putting in an equal share and my ex is on £70k + over double my wage!

I’m seriously considering opting back in.

  6. If car allowance was not considered in payment before why has it been changed now. Are people trying to argu against this change. We are £300 worse off a month Because of the change. There has been no communication that this was how it was going to be calculated.
