Will applying for CSA affect tax credits?

My ex partner is refusing to contribute to his two children depite numerous attempts to ask him to pay maintenance.

I am inclined to apply to the CSA but wanted to know if doing so would affect any tax credits I receive as I could not afford to lose any.

I would appreciate any advice. DO I pursue the CSA (he is self employed) or do I just pay for my children myself? He currently sees the children 3.5 hours per week (his choice) so has little contact with them.
