Wife too ill to work so I have to provide for us and for CSA

I just found this site and it makes for a very interesting read. I have just been assessed a month ago and was informed I had to pay £40.56 a week. Not unreasonable. This morning I had a letter from these cretins telling me I now have to pay £484 for one month then £455 for the next 12 months.

My protected income is £792 and my take home pay is £1140. £792 and £455 = £1247. Perhaps the useless idiots cant add up, and thats after being assessed!! From £792 I have to pay £500 rent, £108 council tax and all the other bills which they dont take into consideration.

My wife is not working due to ill health so it falls on me to put food on the table.

I like my job but whats the point of earning money if you dont even see it? Can you advise please?

  1. I take it arrears are also involved here. In that case the CSA can take 40% of your salary, leaving you with 60%.

Do you agree with the arrears? Obviously the CSA have made a mistake somewhere on your assessments so I would write to them querying this. Also ask for a breakdown of arrears and assessments used to calculate this. My partner had to do this and there were alot of errors in the arrears calculation.

Also let them know that you cannot afford the repayments and detail to them your living costs. They cannot reduce ongoing maintenance but they can reduce the repayment of arrears to a more manageable amount if you can prove financial hardship within the house.

Always best with the CSA when you are disputing something not to speak with them over the phone but put everythingin writing that way you can prove anything they have previously said. Much harder to prove anything with a telephone call and they are not always recorded. We also had to get our MP involved which could be worth your while to get matters sorted out quicker than CSA complaints procedure

  2. I do beleived all the phone calls are recorded and using the data protection act you can request the phone calls, I’m sure there will probably be a charge but at least you can get the recordings
