Where is the CSA getting arrears figures from?

I am totally fed up and at my whits end with this bunch of arseholes.

I get threatening mobile phone calls at least once a fortnight stating I owe these idiots arrears. I’m on incapacity benefit and have been for the past 2 years before then i worked for the local authority for 17 years and never have i missed any payments to my kids.

When i ring up the premium rate number from my mobile i get some Irish knob going off on one telling me i owe money and I just lose it on the phone by getting aggressive and swearing (which you cant help but do) till they hang up (if they cant handle abuse on the phone then i’m afraid working for the CSA is the wrong job).

I have had to have a solictior (at my personal expense) send letters to Ireland threatening legal action because of their incompetence, please someone save me i’m well and truly pissed off!

  1. Join the fabulous club…nobody knows how they work it out..least of all the CSA! just be aware you aren't alone..that's my only advice, sorry!

  2. Hi Mike,

    The agency calculate the arrears by;

    Initial Assessment to the day before next assessment
    Next Assessment to day before next assessment, etc etc

    ie Initial = Monday 14/05/2009 @ £15 per week
    Next Assessment = Monday 17/06/2009 @ £5 per week

    14/05/2009 > 16/06/2009 = 4 Weeks (doesnt but its just an example) = £15 x 4 = £60

    then deduct payments, what ever is left is the arrears figure.

    Also Mike, although i agree that it is hard to stay calm with the person on the phone, they are more likley to help you if you are nice to them, also if there is major issues you should speak to your local MP who can register a complaint on your behalf and should speed the process up.

    Hope this helps

  3. Shame you were classed as Employed at the time when you were working, as if you'd of been self employed they would not be harrassing you now, my husband was in a simular situation to you, they called us every fri afternoon without fail for months and we were sent letters etc, My husband paid over £56,000 in maintenance over the years and never missed a payment, Unfortuntely due to the stress of it all we paid up the arrears !! we never ever knew where these arrears came from.. all i know is someone at the Csa got a big fat bonus that day when we paid up…… As Lorraine says you are not on your own sorry !!!
