When do I stop paying CSA maintenance?

July 4, 2014

When do I stop paying csa maintenance to my ex, my daughter is 18 she is going to college full time studying a 2 year HND in Accountancy she is now on summer leave between year 1 & 2 She is keen to get a part time job to earn her extra cash and experience for her CV as she has no work experience she has been unsuccessful to date in finding work although all he friends have managed and she is an intelligent young woman.

I get the feeling that my ex is discouraging my daughter in getting a par time job as she sees this as a threat to he SCA and any benefits she may get for my daughter while she is on full time education, I am unaware what if any benefits the ex may get as we are not on good terms but I accept the situation for peace and easy access to my daughter over the years.

I am happy to support my daughter on a one to one basis between ourselves and look forward to the day I don’t have to deal financially with EX.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated I don’t want to contact CSA direct until I am sure I am not opening a can of worms for myself.

Regards,

Col
Im happy to support her as long as she is studying for the future

Phone child benefit helpline they will be able to tell you more with regards to the course your daughter is doing. I thought hnd was a higher education qualification but I could be wrong.

We have put this question to the csa as my stepson who is 18, has just started uni. The payments stop in the september after they are 18 as this is when the child benefits stop. You dont have to pay your ex any money after this. And all credit to you for supporting your daughter all the way. Some people misunderstand. It isnt the child you dont want to pay for, its the ex who wastes your money on things other than the child the money is meant for.
Hope this helps and the best of luck to you and your daughter. You are a great father and dont let your ex tell you any different when the payments to fund her lifestyle stop.

It does not matter if the QC has part-time employment, child maintenance is still due to the PWC up to the age of 20 as long as the QC is in full time non-advanced (below degree level) education and child benefit is in payment.
