Yes it’s a legal requirement of you don’t you can be prosecuted
Prosecuted for what? If you are not working and not claiming benefits they cannot touch you.

Don’t know the “rules” where you are, but here in the land of the imaginary “fair go”… they will assess you on your previous income and claim that is your earning potential. Before you know it you have an arrears component added to your name and then they also charge you penalties (which is calculated the same way as a bank calculates mortgage interest) when the arrears isn’t being paid on top of the ex wife’s support… err, I mean child support. Eventually you have a debt that may never be paid out due to the increasing penalties. The really great news about the penalties is… the ex wife doesn’t get that money, and neither do your kids. No… the fucking government gets it. Sounds far fetched?… I wish it was… but it’s 100% true.
That’s even worse than here. They base your payments on your current earnings or if you’re on welfare it’s a set amount of about £5 a week.
I not told them my address mobile or home phone number and they done nothing, don’t tell em anything

Just be honest. Tell them in writing, by recorded delivery you are out of work. If you’re signing on, it’s only be a fiver a week. Don’t tell them and they will assume you are still working and arrears will build up.
