Underpayments and CSA Complaints

I contacted the CSA in October 2009 when I separated from my husband because I knew I could not trust him to pay regularly by informal agreement. A month before we separated he went from casual, part-time employment to full-time,permanent with the same employer. However there was an administrative error and he was paid at the old rate. This was rectified and the amount owing was paid separately. I know this for a fact because his mail was still coming to the family home and I got to it first! However he cunningly submitted two earlier payslips and the incorrect one. His reported income was thus £5000 less per annum.

I informed the CSA three times by phone, getting someone different each time, having to explain every fact as if for the first time- don’t they keep details on their computers? Having gotten nowhere with verbal complaints I used their email complaints form. After 6 weeks some man from CSA left a message on my phone asking me to contact him. I didn’t return the call thinking it would force them to send a written reply- I have heard nothing since. I gave up with the complaint because it was making me feel so useless.

In September 2010, my ex told me he had contacted CSA to tell them he was underpaying me- he was afraid of them taking action. He sent in 3 payslips, they returned them with a letter saying (he says) that because the total increase in maintenance per annum would be less than £1000, they would do nothing. How can this be right? Surely any increase is worth passing on to the children? The extra £25 per month would make a huge difference to me and the children.

  1. Ive been fighting for 7 years, had a letter in sept telling me he owed me 4400 in back pay and 200 a month plus arrears, payment was due this very month and lo and behold theres been "ANOTHER" change of circumstances so its frozen for another 3 months they are aboslutely pathetic!

  2. i’m sorry to say people like you get right on my nerves- You are getting money so be grateful for that…but like most people they want more more more and poor me me me!
Try working and earning your own money and spend less time worrying about what you haven’t got and concentrate on what you have..and be grateful for it!

I am sick of people using children as a meal ticket!

  3. Accept it. CSA would take at least this if not more. They will let u get into arrears 1st then add an additional amount per month to clear the arrears. My suggestion would be give try to negotiate less or pay the money but don't purchase anything else – just pay for the things ur lad needs when ur together

  4. If NRP has shared care of the child then is it possible the NRP makes provisions for the child rather than the PWC?

  5. It should be the child that benefits from any payments not the PWC….. after all it is child maintenance, not PWC maintenance.!!!!

  6. Did you know that it's illegal to open other people's post? How rude is that!!!It wouldn't be worth the CSA's time or resources to organise a new claim for you based on a change in income of only £1,000 a year. Maybe you should have called the guy back rather than try to control the situation and making them write to you – they won't. You may be able to ask for a reassessment in April based on his P60.

  7. CHILD maintainance dont make me laugh, my daughter saw no payments that were sent to keep her, instead her dad brought a new car with it for himself. Alan you were right to call it PWC maintainance, the last thing on my ex's mind was his daughter.

  8. I was incensed by the vacuous comment from hg. I do
work-damned hard- and “earn my own money”. The child maintenance
money goes to my children and they are entitled to every penny
their father can pay. They are not a meal-ticket but two
much-wanted and loved children. Methinks you reveal much of your
own motives and hang-ups in your misguided and ill-informed
comments.Get a life hg and get a grip!

  9. Am just offering my sympathy to the original poster (Sarah Evans).

I too have had gitty comments from male posters on here. Weird, personal ones with nothing to do with what I’d written.

Ignore them hun, you’re worth more!

    xxxx

  10. I too am a greedy money grabber whos sole intention is to bleed every man dry that is unfortunate enough to enter my life and I also won’t think twice about using my children to do it. You have my sympathy…
