If they are taking 40% of your net income because you are paying some arrears as well as the normal maintenance you can negotiate for a reduction to 30% if you show that your debts outweigh your means at the moment.
Send an income and outgoing balance sheet making a request for a reduction as soon as possible by recorded delivery.
