Slowcoach CSA response costs father £12,000 a year

March 20, 2013

I have been paying for 4 children for some years. My youngest child became 18 in November 2012 and she is the only child I am now paying for.

After Christmas 2012 she told me she was working full time as a shop assistant. I contacted The CSA who said I still have to pay them because her mother was in receipt of Child benefit. I contacted Child Benefit who confirms they are still paying child benefit. After talking about my daughters employment they decided to investigate fraud by her mother.

I rang them back a few weeks later and they would not give me any information about this fraud they was investigating. They also told me it could take between 12/18 months to sort it out, in the meantime I still pay CSA and my daughter gets £12000 a year, is this what we call British justice.

A bit ambiguous, is the daughter earning £12000 per year or the NRP paying through the CSA £1000 per month to the PWC for the daughter’s maintenance costing the NRP £12000 per year?
Is the child benefit agency being slow investigating the fraud or is the CSA?
    Another misleading title?

Write a letter of complaint and take it up with your mp. If your daughter is working then hrmc will have records of this. Shouldn’t take over a year to investigate a fraud claim. Hopefully you can get your overpayment back.

You may have been phoning and complaining to the CSA for a long time getting nowhere use this guide and you will see how quickly they respond. Please do excuse if I repeat the steps I have done this for a good reason.

1.Complain and Appeal and get your MP involved EMAIL the complaint and appeal copy everyone in.
2.Order your Data Prints by post and email.
3.Email all and sundry use the email list and email them every couple of days to remind them.
4.Not happy with data prints items missing Complain to ICO be sure to copy everyone in. [email protected]

This is what you do immediately if you believe the CSA are taking too much from you!

◾First thing you must do is make an official Complaint and Appeal *EMAIL THE COMPLAINT*and contact your MP and get them involved regarding your issues you are having with the CSA. Mention that you believe that they have made an Official Error. Ask the CSA for the decision to be set aside as they are not leaving you enough to live on and is going to cause you an injustice. This is based upon Regulation 55 of the Child Support Act (Maintenance Assessment Procedure) 1992 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1992/1813/made
Attach a copy of ALL your outgoings, even the things the CSA don’t allow for.

Email a copy to your MP and all of the others in the email list further below it should get passed straight to the chief executive’s office.

It is very much more than likely that they will then find errors in your assessment going back several years and use that as an excuse to drop the payments.

You can find who your MP is via here http://www.writetothem.com As you will be emailing many politicians, ministers, ICE, ombudsman, complaints team etc all at the same time as per the email list below your emails will more than likely be forwarded to your MP in anyway. or use their [email protected] for

example [email protected] [email protected] or simply just Google your MP if you know who they are and you will find their email address on their website.

This is the email distribution list you are going to use for your Official Complaint and Appeal.

misleading or not,its quite clear the csa are robbing this man and using the “its not our job to investigate benefit fraud” chestnut…. Very convenient as it enables them to still take the money from him.
You should know as well as any of us when you ask “whos being slow at investigating the fraud” The CSA don’t investigate benefit fraud..how many times have they reinforced that on various threads on this site.
    Gonk

    Jo
it takes over a year because its the DWP and CSA despite them having nothing to do with each other conveniently. I am convinced they scratch each others backs.
disgusting..if it were a private company you would take them to court for theft.

    Kirsty
I would deffo stop paying as well for sure, but like me if he’s got a DEO in place? he’s screwed.
    Gonk

  • lisa says:

The DWP is now the CSA, they run it because of the problems people have faced over the last few years

  • wilf says:

    gonk:- My point entirely.
The CSA do not investigate child benefit fraud that is up to the child benefit agency, HMRC, so it is not the CSA that’s a slow coach response.
It’s HMRC, child benefit agency that’s taking over a year not the DWP or CSA.
The daughter is earning £12000 per year it is not costing the NRP £12000.
The title is misleading and incorrect in both parts and does a disservice to the poster who has a valid complaint and deserves to be heard.
It lends little credence to people objecting if they behave in the same way as those they accuse.

  • lisa says:

Can I just let you all know, I had a child benefit check done recently that only took 24 hours through the CSA, so don’t let them fob you off and tell you any different, the CSA and child benefit work very closely together, ring this number and get things dealt with quicker

  • wilf says:

lisa:- Yes I’ve been told a number of people at CSA have access to the CHIB screens so they can see if it is in payment.
I think it’s what Alice calls a service level agreement.

  • lisa says:

The CSA shop floor call handlers cant actually tell whether CB is in payment they have to send a formal email request asking for it to be checked, however managers have different systems that are linked to CB that’s the phone number above that is direct to management, keep hold of it wilf you never know when it might come in handy, I had to ring for this reason only a few weeks ago and that’s what I was told,

  • wilf says:

lisa:- Yes, I suppose like managers anywhere they can jump the queue and get the person with access to do it straight away when the ordinary worker has to e-mail them and wait for a reply.
