My daughter left home at her own accord at 16 years old

Hi need advice please my Daughter left home at 16 at her own accord to live with the grandfather becuase she did not like my house rules.

I am a single parent there mother was killed 5 years ago and i been bringing them up alone with no maintenance being paid to myself. now 5 years on the mothers dad have filed for maintenance against me i have told her i want her home and my home is her home but she wants to live with the grandfather.

I still have another daughter living with me age 14yes and my son 20 and live alone. I feel like i want to end my life but my other children need me.

My question is do i have to pay maintenance ?

Carl.

  1. Your daughter does not have the right ot legally leave home under the age of 18 without your consent. The fact that she has taken it upon herself to go and live with her grandfather doesnt give him the right to even attempt to try and chase you for maintenance. You are the PWC. Its you that gets any child benefit or child tax credit for her. You dont mention wether or not your daughter is working or in full time education or any type of training course. She isnt legally entitled to job seekers allowance before the age of 18. I do sympathise with your plight as teenagers these days are very full of themselves and think they can do what they like without any consequence to themselves. I have an 18 year old daughter with just as big a chip on her shoulder as well. Dont despair, put your foot down with her. make it clear that you are her father and she belongs at home. As for her grandfather. What on earth does he think hes playing at? Interefering by taking her in. He should send her back immediately. And as for his demands for maintenence. Tell him where to get! For him to even attempt to make a claim against you, he has to have legal custody of your daughter. Which he doesnt. So dont get too despondent ok. She made the choice to bugger off! You didnt kick her out. If he doesnt like keeping your daughter on nothing but thin air, maybe you should suggest he send her back and to keep his nose out of your business.
