My 19 year old daughter is doing an apprenticeship, should I still be paying?
My daughter is carrying out an apprenticeship and has done for the past two years and the CSA tell me I must pay as her mother is still receiving child benefit. I thought this advice was incorrect and as she is doing an apprenticeship, my payments would cease.
Furthermore, my daughter is 19 in June 2013 and I am being informed that my payments may continue until she is 20 years of age if she continues with her apprenticeship. Is this correct?

You need to establish what apprenticeship she is doing. If its paid and part of a work placement then this is excluded from chb purposes. Phone up the child benefit and they will help you further.
why would anyone question supporting their child whilst they are studying to better themselves and their job prospects? You child doesn’t stop being yours or have needs just because they turn 19……
True Melinda, but as an apprentice they are in full time employment, so payments should stop as they are earning a wage in their own right
if the wage is decent that is, i agree with you Peter. Often, the first pay cheques are not great though….. once the child is settled, then of course, financial support from parents can be withdrawn 🙂
Most NRP would like to help there children grow into adults without the constraints of the CSA we know 19 year old need help growing up but the PWC need to realise the CSA cash machine has co come to a END ONE DAY !!!!!!
apprenticeships don’t pay very much at all and are still classified as education.
Amanda
Apprenticeships are not classed as education the CSA cash machine comes to an end at this time !!!!!!
