Incorrect deductions – CSA or Employer?

Hello, my partner was contacted by the CSA because of a one night stand a long time ago before we met, he is willing to pay and CSA arranged for payments to come direct from his wages, this is fone and he was happy to do it but they seem to take the lot! Shouldn’t they leave him with £270 to live on per week? For the last 3 weeks he has taken home £2! His employer says it’s CSA fault and CSA are terrible on the phone (it doesn’t help that my partner loses his temper though) they just say that he owes them ‘hundreds’.

I told him to ask them for a full schedule of payments and they said “what do you want that for?”. Is the employer at fault for making an incorrect calculation of payment? Also – the feeling he has of hopelessness is awful! He is willing to pay a fair amount but he cannot live on what he is left with. CSA seem to get away with being unhelpful and power crazy and all seem to think that these men are all trying to avoid their parental responsibility, which isn’t always the case.

Rant over and another question – does the parent with the child (in this case the Mother – his ex) get ALL of the money collected by the CSA? How much do they take for ‘Administration’? (surely not for training).

Thank you 🙂

  1. They receive every penny, they don’t set up dow order unless non complient but they will remove it if ur partner clears arrears

  2. Janet that’s not true, he is being compliant as he has asked for money to be taken this way, but he needs to see a breakdown of accounts, its the law to show this so he knows exactly what the amounts are, his employer should also be given a copy. Speak to your mp that the csa are breaking the freedom of information act. Is he on old rules or new? If its old rules, then some money if, the ex has received benefits will go to the secretary of state. You need to get to the bottom of it, men are entitled to see how much they are paying, how the figures were worked out and a schedule. Good luck.

  3. There are no administration fees, all money is paid to the PWC (unless owed to the SoS).

There are two possibilities. The CSA has to leave your partner with at least 60% of his total weekly income. If this is not happening, either the CSA are assessing him on the wrong income (in which case your partner should find out what they think he is earning, although this should be shown on the collection schedule sent to him annually and every time a new assessment is done) – they can and will reassess if necessary. Either that or the employer is taking more than they are being asked to. Your partner will need to liase with both the CSA and his employer and figure out what’s going on. I think the employer really should be pointing out to the CSA that they’re asking for too much, if that’s what’s happening.

  4. the csa do as they please they take as much as they want whether it leaves the father with less money than they need to pay basic bills with from week to week since my 3 children were born i have had them every weekend and work through the week with a very phisically demanding job this aside i have never had a problem paying for my children but when the csa take rediculous amounts out of my wage leaving me with 1/3 of my wage and barely enough to pay my basic bills whilst she smears make up across her face to try and make good of an attrocity buying HERSELF new clothes whilst dressing the kids like tramps is beyond the joke she works full time also her partner works full time earning much much more than i do yet some weeks the csa take £360 pw from me leaving me most weeks unable to pay my bills thus leaving me in debt !!!!! the csa is a shambolic mess and a disgrace
