I’m billing CSA for £355 due to mistakes
I’ve had a nightmare with the CSA. Every month they say they’ve set up a direct debit from my bank account and every month the transaction fails. Last month, the DD failed as per usual. I called, as per usual, and rectified the situation using my own time and money on the phone to an expensive 0845 number they insist on using. I paid with my Debit card and realised that if any other company made such spellbinding errors regularly, I would definitely charge them them for my time. So I have. I sent a notive with all the legal jargon therein informing them of my fees. £50 per 5 minutes for a phone call to fix their error. £75 per page of any letter I send in response to their mistakes, £35 per debit card transaction in the event they fail to take the funds electronically.
So, again, as expected, the DD fails. I called this morning and asked if they have read my notice. I also informed them that I’m now recording all the calls I make to them (amazing how their attitude changes when you tell them its on the record). So, after 28 minutes on the phone, and a debit card transaction, they have managed to create a bill of £335. I’ll be sending the invoice today, recorded delivery.
I’ll keep you posted as to how / when / if they pay. Under the schedule of fees, they are commercially liable to my charges for wasting my time.
What a shower. How can any organisation be so consistently incompetent?

Wish you luck , they don’t even give you a refund when you have overpaid ,keep the site posted with your progress as I am sure there will be lots of bills into the CSA if you get a penny of them !

hope it works
i fully agree with what you have done, they keep treating people as though they are ignorant when, in truth, they can’t even write a coherent letter or have a decent phone conversation…. i would love to see the CVs of their staff…..
Like Martin says ‘like your style’. It’s about time someone took a stance at the way they treat people. It’s like all the rights are theirs. It wouldn’t be so bad if every single person who works there didn’t interprets the ‘rules ‘in their own way.Next time you speak to someone they have a different take on it! Best of luck

The CSA record their own calls anyway, as is said in the recorded message at the start of the call. Your recording would simply be another copy of this.
The staff all know the calls are recorded because they are assessed for KPI checks using this. I can’t see how you telling them that you are recording it yourself would change their attitude?
Good luck getting £335.00 out of them too, the CSA are government funded and non-profit. Any money they collect from a non-resident parent is paid out to a parent with care. Where you plan to take £335.00 from is beyond me.
It changes their attitude Stacey because most people, wrongly, assume recording calls is illegal or you need permission first. You don’t need permission and are allowed to record your calls without even notifying the person involved. People can get very funny when they know they’re being recorded.
Hiya and thanks for the responses ! Stacey, I appreciate your comment. I would respond by saying that, even though you ‘can’t understand’ why the CSA agents act and speak differnetly when I notify them verbally that they are being recorded (from my phone) – they do. THats just my experience. Maybe for others its different. Also, you talk of the CSA like its a charity. Its not. Its a Wing of Government and the gov is a commercial entity with commercial vehicles that run the show. In commerce, we all have the right to charge for our time. Its really what its all about. The banks do it – just go overdrawn and see what happens. Ive sent my invoice to the CSA as I would any malfunctioning company that screwed with me. They sent me a bog standard template letter stating that they do not believe I am entitled to a ‘cash compensation’. It’s inappropriate to say the least and clearly their legal team haven’t read my schedule of fees as if they had the response would be very different. As it happens, this month, magically, the funds went out of my account on time and for the correct amount. Wonders never cease. So, the moral of this tale is USE YOUR COMMERCIAL MIGHT. Threaten them with a financial penalty and get a lawyer to write it with all the jargon they use – and see how the perform from there on in. In strictly human language, ‘someone got severely bolocked’ for giving my or allowing their team to give me a hard time and the situation is rectified. I still think they’re a shower. God help those Dads among us who *don’t* want to pay as they treat those of us who do badly enough….
Peace and Love.
