If my wife claims CSA how does that affect my payments?

October 11, 2012

I am currently seperated from my wife and have been for approximately 7 months. I have a daughter of 22 months. I have been paying voluntary payments of 150 pound to my wife since we seperated.

I am paying for bills that we both are liable for although there are a few soley in my name i.e Car, furniture.

I am also responsible for for paying the mortgage and repairs and the house we have a joint mortgage for although the house is now rented out and my wife lives in a seperate rented house. Although she has cut her self off from the house.

I still pay her car insurance and also gas and elecric bills that were left from the house.

I was originally going to pay her a voluntary payment of 250 but i cut this down to take in account the insurance and gas/ electric bills i pay. I am correct to do this?

Also if my wife puts a CSA claim in how does this affect me and the payments i already make?

Also how could i sort payments through the CSA so im am not making the payments directly too her?

I am a serving sgt in the Army would the CSA go straight through my chain of command or would they deal with me direct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keith Watkinson.

    Keith,

~ Does the rental income generated from the property not cover such?

Joint debts/debts from the relationship may get taken into consideration by the CSA if they meet the criteria.
Loans may only count if they are from a qualified lender, or from a current or former employer.

You can check the CSA calculator (http://www.cmoptions.org/en/calculator/calculator.asp ) and get a rough idea what your liability would be.

The effective date for a case to commence is once the agency have made contact with the non resident parent.

You could use the CSA’s collection service, if you wish.
