If I’m paying CSA, should I be informed of a name change?
I have been paying CSA for my son since 1997. I have had broken contact on and off since then. I have just been informed that my son who is now 16 has gone and changed his surname to his mums new married name, without my knowledge.
Im sure I read somewhere that if you were paying CSA for a child then they had to get your approval or at least try and contact you to change the surname. Can someone please help and tell me if im still legally responsible to pay for him even though he no longer has my surname and I have not seen him for several years and that is not my choice. I have paid every month since 1997. Any help will be warmly received.

You son is classed as an adult and I would imagine it is his choice and for a reason. If he wanted you informed he would of done so.
no, you need to have a residence order in place for that. Your child can have his/her name changed, it has nothing to do with paying maintenance.

However, if you object to your name being changed you can apply for a court order to prevent the change, provided the court is satisfied that you have sufficient understanding of what is involved.

if you have PR the childs name cant be changed with out your permission. however you only have automatic PR if the are on the birth certificate of a child born after 2002. you have to apply to the court for any child born before
