If I become self-employed how will that affect my CSA payments?

November 11, 2012

My wife effectivelt forced our separation and ongoing divorce stating it was clear that we werent getting on and that it wasnt good for the boys (true to a degree). She didnt however make it clear she was seeing a guy who had left his wife 6 months earlier (coincidence?) and that she had had a previous affair with!!

Niaively,I paid half my wage in maintence, moved to mum and dads but continued to see th kids.Even when I met someone this continued. However, the minute it got out about the guy she was seeing(“it happened after we split!”)she went to a solicitor and for 18 months has been demanding she keep the house, contents, take a slice of my pension and have me contricbute to the debts.

She also at this time went to the csa who took no account of the monies i had evidenced i had paid by standing order prior to her applying to them, who ignored a letter of complaint I wrote to them for the way i was poken to and addressed in a letter-I had OVERPAID!They also told me as soon as i had two payslips evidencing a 5% drop in salary my payments would be reduced. When this happened they “used their discretion” to ask for a third and lo and behold didnt decrease it despite it being something like 4.9% with the three and over 7% with the two-they appear to make it up as they go along!!

Naturally I stopped paying towards the debts and went to a solicitor who is arguing my case as we speak-if she wants the house and the equity (that more than covers the debts) but wants me tied to it then she takes the debts and leaves the pension alone. Her income with tax credits etc etc is £200 a week more than mine!!!Yet i will remain tied to this mortgage till im nearly 60 potentially!!!

My question is-IF I LEAVE MY JOB AND TAKE A SELF EMPLOYED ONE (RISKY I KNOW) WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON CSA?? OBVIOSULY OF I LEAVE PAID EMPLOYMENT I WILL HAVE ZERO WAGE INITIALLY?

Any and all advice massively appreciated-Im currently signed off work-as well as the stress i have skin cancer to deal with as well as the fact that she “reevaluated” my contact arrangements when she approached the csa-clearly for monetary gain but they dont seem to give a flying fig about that even though its as plain as the nose on your face and their system actually encourages women to reduce contact for greed!

Anyone with advice can also email me direct as i need all the help i can get before i go under [email protected]
