I refuse to pay the CSA any money!

November 19, 2009

Hi there. I’m a 24 year old guy. 6 years ago having just turned 18 whilst 2 months into my first ever relationship I found out she was pregnant! Within the next week we had split up. This was a huge shock to the system and I felt so stupid into believing her that she was on the pill.

I always thought I would marry, have a house then have a child in my 30s. At 18 and in my first relationship I was far too immature for this. She swiftly told me I was no longer required and she would be able to have her own home and more money.

I felt suicidal and began to self harm, spending the next year drunk to try and numb the shock and shame.

Anyway time passed and I ignored the CSA and worked. A year or so after the Childs birth I was informed by a friend at social services that the child was at risk because she was living with a registered paedophile. At no time did social services ever contact me. I couldn’t tell anyone this information as my informer had committed a crime in telling me.

That is the main reason I will never pay the CSA.

They somehow have found my mobile number and rang me this week informing me I now owe £10000, of which £8000 is to the Secretary of State. I explained I would never pay for a child that should be taken into care by social services. The male officer agreed that he would do the same yet I still owe £10000 but suggested I contact social services and get them to speak to the CSA!

So after a few calls to social services it turns out they can’t do anything or help me, or even say where the child lives or confirm it is still at risk, nor will they pass this on to the CSA.

Call the CSA and this time speak to a female officer that thinks I’m lying and basically says child welfare is not the CSAs problem and they are purely a debt collection agency! She then suggested the Citizens Advice bureau, who I due fully rang only to be told the CSA will give me a Liability Order or send me to prison. Other than telling me I have to pay they have not given me any advice.

I’m now in a situation where I would rather give what little I own away to the Royal British Legion and commit suicide than give a penny more tax to this government. I really would be grateful if anyone can help me, unfortunately I can’t claim for a mortgage, travel expenses, food expenses and household items like the morons that dreamt up the CSA and at 24 feel like I’ve messed up my life too much with this 1 mistake 6 years ago.

    Hi Mad mike,

This situation is awful and you have my fullest sympathy.

However, as far as giving advice is concerned… unless there is proof that you are not the child’s father, then regardless, you will be liable for child maintenance and the agency will pursue.

Quite obviously from your post, the agency have calculated liability.
Has this been achieved by actual information provided to the agency OR have they applied a penalty OR default maintenance decision?
If the latter, this can be altered to a proper maintenance calculation and may well decrease the alleged arrears amount.

You need to give this matter your attention, it will not go away.
