I need CSA avice about reducing my payments

Hi, I have just received a letter from the csa about my arrears a total of £3000. In the letter it states that I have to pay 1 payment of £583.97 on the 1st Sept 2010 & a further 7 payments of £554.13 per month. It then reduces to £368.01 & eventually £175.18 (the payment that I would normally have to pay each month without arrears).

I have tried to receive help from a few Solicitors but they are unable to take the case on because they are not given funding for such a case. I haven’t got a clue what is going to happen to My financial circumstances as I can’t afford to pay the above payments. Can anyone suggest any group to help me out ?

I remarried over two years ago & had to provide for My Stepdaughters. The csa owe me money & still after two years they haven’t sorted this out. I was supposed to have my payments reduced by 15% but this never happened. All they are bothered about is ruining Fathers’ lives. If I have the payments taken straight from my wages then unfortunately I will be forced to pack in my Job as (funny as it sounds).

I will not be able to afford going to work! Can anyone help (please) ?

  1. sorry mate we are in the same position they are taking 700 a month from us so the only answer is pack in the job

  2. We have been in the same boat now for some time and the only way you can get help is by your local m.p. taking up the case and asking the c,s,a, to review the situation. It is not a quick fix but they can be helpful! The only other way is if you have a good relationship with your ex ask them if they are willing to take it out of the hands of the c,s,a and have a legal contract drawn up by a solicitor which is not overly expensive. Your ex must contact the c,s,a, and tell them that you have come to your own verbal agreement and they do not wish the c,s,a to pursue it further nor the arrears. You decide between you on a reasonable figure and it is written into the contract that you will pay by direct bank transfer monthly and you both agree to give eachother a months notice regards any changes to payments circumstances etc.If you talk to your ex first and they agree then pursue this avenue by asking your local m,p to plead your case.Hope some of this helps.

  3. You need to get all your paperwork together and go and see your MP and get him to write a letter on your behalf pleading your case. I had my payment reduced from £114 a week TO £45 thanks to one letter from my MP`s office. All depends in which area you live in, for how much clout your MP has. You also need to go to http://www.deadbeatdadsassociation.co.uk/ and read up on your rights you may be paying when you do NOT have to. If that fails you can always cut your hours or take a part time job and the tax credit will make up your money if you have dependant kids living with you. Dont sit on this! the CSA are there to make money to carry on trading as a viable company and they wont be hanging about.

  4. CSA guidelines say they have to collect arrears within a two year period which would put your payments at £300.18. But if you are suffering hardship you have to see your MP he has more clout than you to try to get this reduced to an affordable level.

  5. They can be after arrears much longer than 2 years ………..Where did you see the guidelines

  6. 1. Do not quit your job. as far as I know this can be taken as refusal to pay and they can start proceedings to send you to prison.

I know it’s hard, and fighting them seems pointless at times, but you need to keep going. Letters, phonecalls the works until they back down.
Also contact your MP they can help.

I’m the “new partner” in a csa case and it seems I’m not even relevant, even though my child with my partner is now at risk, with us, of eviction because they’re refusing to listen.

    Keep fighting.
