I have to pay £780 a month for two children – why is it so much?
I have been deducted £443.00 from my wage for 2 chidren with separate mother’s, yesterday the csa changed that to £580.00 per month plus an extra £200.00 in back pay bringing my monthly total to £780.00, I don’t know why I have back pay as the only time I have not payed for my kids was when I was out of work 2008-2010 when the recession was on and I was on benefits.
I make roughly £1700 take home pay but I am on the pre 2003 system which I have asked to be updated to the new system but to no avail ( I would pay £350 per month if I was on the new system according to the csa calculator) I spoke to an officer at the Belfast office today but his attitude is one of I don’t really care about your sob story it is what it is so pay it. i’m at my wits end and can only see 2 solutions ahead of me, either leave my job which I thourghly enjoy or end my life as this is killing me.

It just makes me so angry! Thousands of NRPs slapped with mysterious, ‘out of the blue’ debts cannot be wrong!
First thing to do get a breakdown as to what’s owed from when if you failed to infirm the CSa of any change then they will not backdate any changes it’s your responsibility to keep them up to date at all times. Ask where the debt is from and get everything in writing
I think you need some desperate help mate, join child support agency ripoffs group on Facebook we can get you through this and a fab bunch of people for support, we have ways of making complaints and being listened to by people at the top not the muppets in the call centres
they can only tax a max of 40% of your wages. is this 780 less or more than 40%?
They take 15per cent for 1 child 20 percent for two. However they can take upto 40 per cent to cover arrears. Thats y every dad is in made up arrears they cant dont and wont prove so they can legally screw u for the full 40 per cent even if u have only one child so they can get an extra 25 percent by making up arrears. I wrote to my employer forbidden them to disclose my details to the csa under the data protection act and if my employer went against me I wud see them in court then I told the csa I did that and my employer will refuse to give csa details then I told csa they cud not touch my wage packet by law and I paid csa wat I owed by cheque every month until they proved my arrears. They threatened my every way they can tried to do a DEO but got declined by employer. Eventually they gave up they cud not take me to court cos I kept copies of letters I asked for prove of arrears. They went on and drove me mad but I beat them.
