How much should I pay based on my salary?

I have been divorced since 2007 and separated since 2005, from the time we separated I paid £400 per month based on generosity not ability to pay to my 2 daughters. This was agreed in the divorce. I now pay £200per month to my remaining daughter who is just turned 17 and is in full time education until she is 18.

My circumstances have changed over the past 4 years but I have continued to pay the amount agreed £200 per month. My salary is now approx. £7,800 per year net, what should my maintainance be and what steps would I have to take to implement any alternatives.

I have no other children living at home and my daughter stays lees than 52 days per year.

  1. on an annual salary of £7800 that makes and average of £150 per week
as your income is less than £200 per week the assessment would be on a reduced calculation
£5 for the first £100 of your salary plus 25% of the remaining £50 – total assessment would be £17.50 per week which would work out at £75.33 per calendar month

  2. @ Alice – Your calculation is slightly adrift, I read that there is One daughter, so therefore your 25% should actually be 15%, £150 Net pay, £5 for the first £100 then 15% of the remaining £50 = £7.50, plus the £5 equates to £12.50 per week, but I will await correction if needed.

  3. topper:- It is only 15% for an income greater than £200 per week.
On the reduced rate assessment it is £5 for the 1st £100 plus 25% of the remainder for 1 child.
Check by using the calculator on this site.
