How can the CSA just have someone locked up like this?
Hi again I just wanted to follow up my story from the other day.
My husband was put on a wing with sex offenders because the prison was so full and he was unable to leave his cell. He should have been given a phone card on Saturday but didn’t receive it until Monday it had £1 on it!
He has now been moved to a different wing but is locked up for 23 hours a day and is still wearing his same clothes he was arrested in and does not have a pillow as they don’t have any left!
I cannot arrange a visit as he dosent know how to apply for one, he does not have a probation officer as he’s not a criminal it’s a civil matter and he has no contact with anyone and still does not know if his sentence is 42 or 21 days!
I am at a complete loss at what to do or how to help does anyone have any suggestions?

If it’s not a criminal matter they can’t arrested him. I suggest you get legal advice. Speak to your local citizen advice bureaux and he should be entitled to a duty solicitor

Owen, I missed the first part and im guessing it’s not as straight forward as ‘he didn’t pay his CSA’. Could you please let me know what happened? I hate how the CSA treat people, it’s disgusting!
that poor man you think putting him in prison helps maybe he could not pay read the frist part
Wish they would take firm action against my children’s biological father hasn’t paid since birth 16 years, it’s not for me it’s for them they deserve better. Yes I’ve provided all I could with my husband but they have had to make do and do without. He wouldn’t contribute to the children even whilst we were still in a relationship either. I feel for those parents who do care and do support their children who then are screwed over by Csa but not the ones who deliberately refuse to.
Criminalising a parent regarding their own children What a disgraceful country we live in. Judges ‘allegedly’ watching porn, corrupt politicians, cronyism, etc, etc.
What happens between parents and their children has nothing to do with corrupt politicians and the corrupt courts. There should be a mediation service first and the authorities should keep their noses out of it!
Sending a person to prison on what is a ‘debt’ should be outlawed, and those who put him in prison should be sacked!

I will draw your atention to the case of KAROONIAN AND GIBBS 2012 EWCA 1379
it was deemed that such imprisonment breached article 6 of the human rights convention.
My advice would be to google this case down load it and read the judgement in full
it may help

my husband has been in prison for 12 days now and the prison are saying it’s a fine so he must do the full 42 days! I’ve spoken to a solicitor and the csa and this is not a fine! how do I get this through to the prison? I can’t get any legal help as the solicitor says they can’t do anything I just want some help because I’m terrified he will be in longer than he should. I went to visit him and he’s a broken man the csa have ruined our lives. thankyou for all your responses they really help 🙂
