Fathers left destitute due to the CSA

I live in a caravan as i cant afford a house.

I recieve a pension of about £11,000. I was retired due to ill health. I am only 56, I have a 3rd child which i have never had any contact, the mothers choice and i respected that.

The csa are now taking £158 a month, i rang them and told them i would not have enough money to live on as i do pay for my first 2 children, i was told that was my problem, not theres.

They got a deo from my nhs pension, who i contacted and told them to take this money they would have to provide proof. I recieved a letter and told they were allowed to deduct my money by law, they sent a letter to my ex wifes house which she opened. I have not lived there for over 17 years.

You cant imagine the upset they have caused in the quest for money and my life is not worth living. They never sign any of the letters, and if i try and ring they just tell me they are putting the phone down, oh and my earning is before tax which isnt taken into consideration.

Amazing from a company that makes profits for its stakeholders, you cant beat them they are a law unto themselves and have no regard for decent people, and are responsible for the deaths of fathers who, with no fault of there own, are left destitute.

  1. ian,

    Are you on old rules, where outgoings are taken into consideration or new rules where you pay 20% of your net income, less overnight stays etc?

    You state ‘my earning is before tax’, are you in employment as well as receiving your pension?

    Would you please also clarify your comment ‘Amazing from a company that makes profits for its stakeholders’.

  2. they take 20% of my income i am retired from the nhs due to ill health,and will never be emloyed again.i do not claim any benefits,I read on line that the mea has stakeholders and that they make large profits,not passed on to single parents,i have no permanant address.i asked if someone from the csa would like to visit me in my caravan but they declined,

  3. ian,

    Please confirm, as you have 3 children;
    1) How many children are you paying for through the CSA?
    2) Do you pay any child maintenance for any other children, which does not go through CSA?

    It maybe that, if your paying for some of your children via the CSA and others by a private arrangement direct with their mother, that the CSA will not take into account the money you are contributing to the latter. In which case it maybe worth considering changing that agreement and also opening that case under the CSA, as the contribution will be 25% of your income for 3 children.

    I’m not sure what the ‘mea’ is, maybe you could provide us with a linky.
