CSA wants to take money they are not owed

I would like to tell you about my brother in-law. He has been contacted out of the blue six years on from the last letter from the CSA saying the case was closed.

e allegedly owes £8000 for his daughter who is now 26 and has two children of her own. He has contacted his ex wife and she knows nothing at all about this. They want to start taking £115 a month out of his earnings and this will start September. He does not owe this money.

Please can you give us some advice. He is very stressed and is not well from asll of this. What can we do about this? Please help.

  1. Marg,

Your brother needs to establish when and how the alleged arrears have accrued.
Has he contacted the agency regarding this yet?
The questions above could produce a number of responses from the CSA, so until he has managed to confirm such, it’s near impossible to give accurate advice.

If your brother is having difficulty getting straight answers he would be well advised to apply for his Data Protection File and complete account breakdown (fee of £10), once in receipt he should be able to establish the info he requires.
