CSA tripled my payments after they should have been reduced

January 3, 2013

After months of waiting the CSA called to say that my review had been completed. My payments were going to be reduced by half.

Ah I thought light at the end of the tunnel Roll on a couple days the CSA call again yes your payments are reduced but you owe us so we are adding 216 per month virtually tripiling my payments the reason they say they want all monies they feel due within 24 months.

It has now got to a stage where Im not sure its worth working anymore.

If these people were loan sharks the police would be after them and I would have more rights.

If you have arrears on your case due to unpaid child maintenance the CSA will collect these along with your regular maintenence. They can take up to 40% of your net weekly/monthly income and they have a debt steer to collect all outstanding arrears over a maximum period of 24 months. If even by taking 40% of your net income there will be arrears of £500 outstanding after 24 months the CSA can apply for a Liability Order.

If you are unsure of where the arrears have accrued from you can ask for a client statement which will show all charges and all payments made by you.
