CSA said I have to pay maximum tarrif because I didn’t respond – I was overseas fighting for my country
I left the forces in 2001 and subsequently got divorced. For years I paid money to my ex wife for my son.
In 2007 rejoined the military and was subsequently deployed overseas. While on this deployment my ex wife decide to let the CSA know that she had gotten married again (about 2 years after the actual wedding). So a re assessment was made. Imagine my suprise after 6 months overseas when I was told that i now had to pay 111 per week for my son and that I would be able to live 75 a week, to include all my travelling to see my son 400 mile round trip.
I called the CSA and asked why it was so much and the response was that because I didn’t respond to the correspondance they sent that i was assessed on the maximum tarif. I told them that the first time I knew about this was when I actually got back into the country after 6 months away.

Basically if the CSA send a letter that is sufficient for them to say you have received it. Write a formal letter of complaint and get your MP involved.
