CSA pushing me over the edge
Well am an hgv driver working and living in Oldham near Manchester.Ipay csa for my daughter who is now 17yrs old.
Ive always had problems with the csa but this time they really have pushed me to the edge. Ihave recently started a new job earning around £1800 per month. The figure they have decided i have to pay for one child is £536 a month.
This is as you can imagine causing untold problems both financially and personally. Ihave explained to them that i really cant continue paying that amount and continue paying my mortgage etc. But they are not interested in my worries at all.
To say all this is causing me sleepless nights is an understatement.I really dont know how am going to pay my mortgage not to mention the mountain of debt i got myself into while i was unemployed.
Thank you for listening.

Kids don’t come cheap especially 17yr old teenagers these days unsure how you manage to not survive on 1400 a month?? People these days get half that on a wage pay csa and have debts also
Teenagers of 17 can earn their own money through part time work. CSA should only be a contribution with the PWC putting in their contribution. It does not cost over £500 to support 1 child. I can understand your frustration. Join a grouo called Child Support Agency – rip offs for help and advice to challenge the assessment.
If it’s more than 20% get reassessment
Yes 17 year olds can earn their own money but if in ft education both parents still have to support them financially
looks like he is on CSA1 where the calculation is much more complicated. Having said that the maximum they can take from your net salary is 30% which still leaves a huge gap when you have bills to pay. NRP may have a high mortgage or have debts due to being out of work – please get calculation checked. Other group is very helpful.
The new assessment is about 30% of 1800. If you are on the old system old rules you need to check that they have included your mortgage in their calculations as 30% is the maximum without living costs which were included in CS1 assessments. You could also check that they have brought the PWC’s circumstances up-to-date.
All cases are being moved to csa3
