CSA payments are unfair

10 Years ago divorced my wife. CSA told me what to pay her and I regularly paid her every week when I picked up the children though through the majority of their lives they stayed with me and I looked after them. Ten years after we divorced CSA said as I paid every week they had closed the case and I received a letter to that effect and my ex told me they awarded her £10000. I still continue to pay my ex as my oldest at 18 is at college. Just over the past few months have received letters from the CSA to say I owed £1700 and then another letter to say I owe £600 to the secretary of the state. I have rung them and they now say I should have got receipts from my ex when I paid her each week !! Also as I owe the money to the secretary of state I will have to pay.

How can they suddenly do this when everything was settled with my ex wife. My ex also tried to speak to them but they said they couldnt discuss the case with her. How does it not involve her as she is the only person that can verify that I paid her.

  1. They really are low life scum! They continually target those who have paid for their children, whilst those who don’t pay and have never paid, are left alone!

I would write directly to Duncan Smith at the DWP. He is the Minister and therefore, he should answer your questions!

  2. Write back, do not phone, detailing that the case was closed and the details. I assume you no longer have the letter.

As such write off for a copy of your file under the data protection act to the CSA in Longbenton and ask for copies of all computer and clerical records. Ask for the computer log to be properly dated and enclose a £10 postal order (not cheque). Quote your NI number. This you need to get thru so that you can see what has actually happened over the years and you should then see the details as to when the letter was sent to you.

Also get written down what has happened and go see your MP.
