CSA owes us money but demands cash for my ex’s kids at same time

My new wife has an ex who was paying her £200 per month (non CSA calculated) for their 17year old to live with her.

When she met me, he decided to stop the payments. I suggested, after loads of negotiations that she should go to the CSA. She did so and his payments were recalculated at £150 per week!

He didn’t pay a penny and eventually the CSA got bailiffs involved, who are still trying to get the now approximately £4,000 owed. Subsequently, my step daughter moved in with her Father for sound practical reasons. At this point, my wifes ex partner approached the CSA and made a claim against my wife. They upheld the claim and stated that my wife needed to start paying which she does since she is a normal hard working and conscienscious person!

We are more than a little perplexed as to how an organisation can, on the one hand, be spending an enormous amount of time and money attempting to squeeze thousands of pounds from an individual, whilst at the same time ordering a payment in the opposite direction of £30 per week!

Ludicrous!

  1. Welcome to the world of the CSA…. well if they merely offset one against the other then the workload would reduce, can't be having that, can we?

  2. My situation is the same I have asked several times why the csa has one rule for my ex and a different rule for me. My ex had a 3 week holiday in New Zealand has had 3 new cars this year but cant afford his arrears. and this month paid £1 towards his arrears, it cost me 70p to park the car to pay it into the bank.

  3. The CSA are not interested in collecting money for children. They are only interested in collecting money for themselves! Big mistake going to them! Didn't you think £150 per week was rather unrealistic? A 17 year old should have the freedom to move between both her parents and BOTH parents should be responsible in providing for her. There is ONLY one thing to do with the CSA and that is SHUT it down. Why is she paying them if they owe her money? Stop all payments to them, and write to them demanding payment of the arrears that are outstanding. Threaten them, because that is the only language they understand. Demand that she be paid within fourteen days, or she'll take further action against them. She should never have involved the CSA!

  4. Peter, please tell me what action can be taken against the csa to make them collect arrears owed?

  5. Paula if you're ex partner/husband/wife is self employed you haven't a hope…£42800.00 arrears here : (

  6. and just to add for reference when my ex husband left and i was forced to claim income support with two pre school children the DWP wrote to me requesting my ex husbands details, address, DOB, and NI number if i failed to supply said info my income support would have stopped so avoidance at the time of not involving the CSA 14 years ago wasn't an option!

  7. No issues with that Lisa, not much you could do about it! My ex was in the same predicament but still refuses to come off them now even though she gets either £5 or nowt! I have offered more but if she wants to screw our child then so be it!

  8. that is disgusting Paula, complaint in writing via your MP they have to address the complaint within 14/21 days because it comes from a ministerial office, i'd say then take your evidence to the Independant case examiner but be warned they have a year backlog of complaints.

  9. Lee in that case PWC hands were tied too 🙂 Lee she refuses to come off of what? what benefit?

  10. I have done that ICE have been in contact both by letter and phone, so far. Apparently I have to complain to the Director first before they will take the case. But they are aware and the complaint to the director was sent this week. Keep you posted.

  11. You need to go down your local County Court and make a small claim against them. If only all the mothers not receiving any money from the CSA would do this, the Courts would be flooded with claims, and the Government might actually do something about it.

  12. And, as Lisa has said. Get down to your MP's surgery and give him hell about it. The CSA just needs closing down.

  13. Peter my MP has washed his hands of it quoting 'there nothing further i can add to the case…' but he's great at planting trees!

  14. Bolton CSA absolutely priceless. ICE forwarded my complaint to Bolton I received confirmation of this from the CSA and now there is no record of any complaint ever. I have at least 5 letters received from the CSA about said complaint but someone has erased these from my case notes. Good job I have kept every letter, how will they get round this? Either myself and ice are liars or perhaps Bolton have created yet another maladministration claim for me.
