CSA mocked me for getting my MP involved

July 21, 2012

I raised 3 daughters on my own without any financial help from my exhusband as the csa continued to assess him as nil amount to pay. It is only the last year that I have received £20 month for the youngest daughter.

She has now decided she wants to live with her dad and the csa are now saying I have to pay £300 month to her dad – he has been convicted of fraud and continued to work cash in hand while claiming benefits. (I have told them this on numerous occasions over the years).

My local MP has written to them but I received a phone call from the csa asking me “What did you think he was going to do, change the legislation?”.

In fact, yes, I would like the legislation changed, if not just for the moral injustice of the system. I work hard and we all pay our taxes to pay for my exhusbands benefits, and now I have to top up his earning!! Last night, a csa employee told me to put the payment on a credit card as I said I didn’t have £1000 in my bank account!!

Dave – I have even been thinking the same as you. If I sell my house and resign from my job, then they won’t get a penny from me.

Complaints department here I come – but I have a feeling I will get the same response from them.

Vickie, Ive been walked all over by this shambolic organisation since it was first set up in the early 90’s.
Be careful about giving your job up. I have read that the CSA can still take the money from you if you give up work to avoid paying maintenance.
    Seek legal advice first.

That is awful what has happened to you but unfortunately the CSA only ever look at numbers. As you are well and truly aware they are a law unto themselves.

I was told previously that if my partner gave up work the CSA may look at it as he was evading paying child maintenance and they do have the right to keep an assessment in place if they believe that to be the case. Watch also as you mention selling your home – the CSA can put an order over it to stop a sale but this is more if you have very high arrears. If you are in arrears they may approach your employer with a DEO to take the money direct from your wages.

Good luck with your fight – we have been fighting for well over a year now and it is a very lengthy drawn out process so don’t expect anything to happen too quickly.
