CSA has just reopened an old claim from my ex for child support

October 15, 2012

I have just taken a call from the CSA informing me that a previous claim has been re-opened.

An ex partner whom i had a child with decided several years ago to ‘close’ the order; now all of a sudden wants it re-opened. I am not moaning about my responsibilities as a farther, it is more about the issue that at any time even though the case was closed can be re-opened.

Is there anything that can be done?. i put my carrer on hold (as earning money was seriously detrimental with the CSA order); i have now steadily worked hard improving my prospects to be faced with what could be significant monthly payments. Any advice would help – very fed up and angry!

Unfortunately once a case is in with the CSA they will follow it through. You will have to pay 15% of your net salary for one child.

There is no way around it at all, unless you can reach a private agreement with your ex.

    Are you self employed?

    Andrew,
Did you continue to contribute child support directly to your ex, after the CSA was supposedly closed?

Did you receive a case closed letter at the time, from the agency?

You may need to request your Data Protection file to see if it HAS been closed or if it was just suspended.
