CSA has fabricated arrears and made threats against me
I have dutifully paid £633.40 every month for 9 years, assessed by the CSA and stolen from me by direct debit. Suddenly I have received a demand saying I have arrears of £1241.29 from 2002, with no explanation: I have never missed a payment, and the CSA fixed their own figure for payment, so it’s hardly my fault.
On the phone they tried to argue something about a change of circumstances, but there were none at that date. They did not advise me at the time, nor have they ever shown me a calculation upon which this is based. This is their error, and I am powerless to contest it: I just keep receiving heavy-handed threats of legal action.
Any advice please?

They did this to me for £6,400. It is blatant theft. Complain to your M.P., complain to the Independent case examiners office.
We are all being ‘scammed’ by the CSA. The serious fraud office should get involved!
Do not deal with the CSA by phone.
Always deal by post and keep a copy for your file.
Ask for a print out of you payments and how they have ‘calculated’ your arrears.
Check everything.
If the arrears are non existent and this can be the case, write a letter explaining this and keep a copy.
Never ever pay by bank or credit card – this is a good example why.
The CSA exploit your goodwill and cooperation.
Pay by cheque.
They don’t like it but you are in control of what you pay.
