CSA forces me and my family into poverty
I’m in the army and just been posted overseas with my wife and new baby. I have been paying maintenance to the CSA for my son who lives with my ex. The amount I payed was reasonable 270pcm take home salary of around 1200 now because I live abroad through no choice of my own army comes first, I am now been forced to pay 650 for one child.
The csa say this is because I have to pay for not been there ie have him on a regular basis. My job is been used as an easy target as they take the money straight from my wage before I even see it makes me angry.
I get a little extra pay out here but that is because the cost of living here is different to the Uk this is an added payment to my salary.
Now I am struggling and the only people that suffer is my new born baby and my son as now I have no spare income to see him the CSA are T**ts. Is there a different body that could help in my case that is not the csa as appeals process is like shouting at a brick wall laughing at you.

It is a brilliant quote “…a brick wall laughing at you.” But the CSA are a law unto themselves if they lie, make a mistake, miscalculate your payment, lose your documentation or worst of all just invent the amount you have to pay based on their absurdly unreliable IT SYSTEMS you owe the money with no way out.. When this happens you are fucked by them as the invented amounts become legally liable through administrative liability orders that have no right of appeal or redress welcome to the modern fascist state of Britain, if the made up draconian nonsense of the state says that you owe the money then you do, no come backs. I hate this country where millions breed on benefits with no comeback whatsoever while I pay income tax, NI, CSA , VAT and council tax that takes up 60% of my income. I am leaving the UK as I can’t stand the billions spent on the millions of able bodied scroungers any more
The CSA under the current system is entitled to no more than 15% of your nett income for 1 child. If you owe arrears from the first date they made contact with you up to the point where they actually started taking money from your salary, they are within their rights to take this also until it is back up to date. You do have a right to ask for a variation in your maintenance now that you have another dependant child that resides with you that could reduce your maintenace even further. Insist on your grievance being taken up by the CSA complaints department as you are currently getting no joy from your current case officer. You do have a right to know how they have reached their assessment of you. Sadly there is no independant watchdog body to ensure the CSA does its job right. You would think there would be with the amount of complaints that goes in against this government department every year. There are watchdogs for every other tom dick and harry department within government!
From the figure you gave of £1200 per month salary, Which i assume is your after tax take home, 15% of that is no more than £180. So unless you owe arrears of some kind you are being taken for a ride. I suggest you demand on a complaints dept case officer to treview your case immediately as what they are doing is wrong. Also demand a variation because your child that is resident with you from your new relationship. Hope this helps matey.
Hi Mark,
No i do not owe any arrears to the CSA i paid £2000 off about 5 years ago. when i was in the uk i was paying around £260 PCM which i feel was an acceptable amount. My pay is now £1200 plus the 650 they take = 1850 Take home after tax. If this is right the 15% should be around the £300 mark. I feel im been taken for a ride royally. at the moment they are taking around 37% if my maths are correct. what makes it worse is that i cant do anything at the moment as im away on tour. would they backdate any payments i have already paid if i was to get it reduced. How the hell can i take care of my wife and new baby and myself on the amount they leave me?
If your new partner in reciept of tax credits the calculation is right
no my wife receives nothing i support her with my wages she is a stay at home mum and i don’t claim for any tax credits.
Ah well I’m not sure how they work out payments as you must be on good income not to get any tax credits
How much a month do you earn?
