CSA doubled my payments with no warning

I’ve been paying £120 for my child since 2006 s told by the CSA and last year the mother wanted a review as she had got herself into loads of debt. I was then informed by her that I had to pay £247, but not by the CSA, I had to call them! So I asked for a review myself and after sending them wage slips from Aug, Sept and Oct, where I was earning considerably less then the beginning of the year. I was then told again by the mother that it gone up again to £267 a month.

After speaking to the CSA I feel they have not answered any of my questions, like “Why has it increased so much in such a short space of time when my wages haven’t increased proportionally?” I’m a serving soldier based in Germany and happily married, and the extra £147 I’m supposed to be paying is generally spent on travelling back to the UK to see my child aswell as birthdays, christmas etc. We are struggling to make ends meet as it is, with my wife being unable to work as jobs are scarce here and having to pay such a large increase will make our lives extremely difficult.

The CSA being what they are though don’t care about that, just their money no matter the consequences. The only advice they give is to speak to the mother, which we’ve tried but to no avail. I don’t begrudge making payments for my child but at the correct amount. I’ve heard from other people on a similar wage that are paying much less so why am I paying so much. Please can you help or advise us on the predicament we’ve been put in to help us get the correct amount we should be paying until they leave us in financial ruin

  1. I’m sorry this is happening. If your wage hasn’t increased then write a letter to the csa demanding a breakdown and an explanation to why it has increased, also say its leaving your new family in hardship which is against the human right act. If you have fb join the guys on there, some ex servicemen who will help. The group is against the csa and its corruption.

  2. Sam,

Is your case calculated on old rules (before 03/03/03) or new rules (on/after 03/03/03)?

A variation could assist with special expenses such as with costs to maintain contact/access to the qualifying child.

  3. 15% of your net weekly income including any benefits you are receiving, quite easy to work out really, dont blame the csa if your wages have gone up, thats the only reason it can change not coz of your exes debts, also the csa get the info in, calculate it and send a letter to explain how its been done, they have to pursue the amount stated while ever your ex asks them to, thats why they speak to her, not coz they dont care, coz they dont have a choice!!!!
