CSA debt keeps growing

I broke up with my partner over 3 years ago, before this we were on and off for many year in which time she would open csa claims.

After getting back together i signed half my house over to her and we agreed to call it quits on that debt. After braking up 3 years ago, we agreed on payment without involing the csa (i want to pay for my children) but after she learned that i had started seeing my current girlfriend chose to open a new case and claim for the previous claims she had put in saying that had not settled my debt.

So a £6000 bill from the csa came through my door. After agreeing to pay £300 a month to clear this debt and after my youngest son coming to live with me they are still charging me for both children as if they were living with her. On top of this they want to put a charge on the house we own so that makes it a combined sum o aprox £20,000 if you include court fees and such.

Now things with me and her have calmed down and she has tried to stop the claims from the csa, but they will not stop coming after the debt. What can i do, they will not give me a brake down of why i owe this much to me or my ex partner?

  1. This has been happening to me for over 5 years now any one up for a demo in birkenhead ?

  2. Jeff,

From April 2010 a full benefit disregard was introduced. Was your ex claiming benefits prior to this?
If so, the majority of the debt will be owed to the Secretary of state and your ex is NOT in a position to cancel such.

Did you notify the agency at the time you son moved in with you and do you claim the child benefit for him?

You should write to the agency requesting a complete account breakdown. You can also request your Data Protection file, there is a fee of £10, but it should provide you with all the info the agency hold on you.

  3. Martin we need thousands to go on any demo re the CSA. It needs to be properly organised and realisticially I can’t see it ever happening.
The public in general haven’t a clue how the CSA operate and I can’t see CSA “victims” getting much public support.
Speaking to people, all they are aware of is the CSA letting people get away with not paying.

  4. There are demos Brett – and they’re pretty well organised. They don’t get a lot of media attention, but occasionally they hit the heights (so to speak). There are a few regulars on here who are involved in them, but I’ll say no more. Batman keeps his identity secret 🙂
