CSA computer error means I owe five grand
Where do i start!!! I have been paying the CSA since 1998. My daughter is now 19 years old in June 2012.
I was pleasantly happy not to have to be involved with the agency after this only to find that a computer error back in 2006 had not been implemented and now they are telling me that i still owe the agency £5k even though an AEO has been in place. My ex has been married 5years, 2 incomes in thier house.
I am NOT an absent father been there for every 1 of those 19 years and all birthdays xmas etc. All i want is a bit of clarity, fairness and justice.
HELP!!!

The same happened to my husband re his ex partner, and this goes back years as his son is now 26yrs and we stpped paying 7 years ago when he was 19yrs. Now the CSA have put a DOE to his army pension to take back over 3000 pounds they say he owed from 9 years ago, however 9 years ago my husbands employer paid the CSA diect from his monthly salary, so he never could have OWED any monies. However when we contacted them to send prof of how this occured they sent a load of paper with figures that looked liked mickey mouse language (I have worked in accounts all my life so do know how to read statements) but it was impossible to make any of their statement out. Instead of trying to sort it out they couldnt be bothered and the next thing we knew was we received a letter saying that 283 pounds a month would be taken from his army pension to correct this until the debt is paid. My husband had no say or control over this as the CSA have the power to do this stealing, their mistake , we pay!!!!
go and see your mp…you to lynne, take all your paperwork with you, we have done this and having things re-assessed, it takes time but show CSA that you’re not giving up without a fight. CSA clawing at old accounts to get monies back that they have lost through nrps that haven’t paid. good luck.
I got stitched up with £6,400 arrears from these useless scumbags. My M.P. was involved and my complaint went to the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
When you see your M.P. ask them to refer your case to the Ombudsman on the basis of repeated maladministration and wilful incompetence. if yor M.P. won’t refer it, write to the Ombudsman (PHSO) yourself.
My M.P. and the Ombudsman closed ranks on me and did absolutely nothing to help……but it would help others if you make a whacking complaint to the CSA Executive, the DWP-Duncan Smith and the Ombudsman.
Failing all this seek a free consultation with a solicitor and get advice!
Lynn and Tony as Joanne says take this further. Don’t just pay.
Write a formal letter of complaint. That is absolutely disgusting but seems to be the way of the CSA.
Write to the Data Protection Unit, CSA Newcastle and request a copy of your file. The CSA will charge a fee of £10 for this but it will show everything they hold on you. It takes 40 days for the file to be delivered to you.
When my ex partner got his file through there were numerous errors that were easy to spot.
We are in exactrly the same situation. It’s disgusting how this can be allowed. Paid for child till seh was 19 now thay want money from 1997 that was cash payments and have arrested my husband’s wages.
i have just contacted the csa, they currently take my maintenance from ym salary and it is due to end this month. When i called them i was told i was over £1000 in arrears and the reason i got was that my employer paid the wrong amount from my salary. I contacted wages and they confirmed it was the correct amount so i called them back. They said they couldnt find the court order and that the system wasnt backflushed at the time. I said not my fault but according to their system my account was in arrears even though they have admitted it was their fault i still need to pay. i dont owe this money but they said they will take it from my salary anyway because it would be too much to reset my account, and also they dont know how much the court order was for as they dont have the paperwork. i dont even know when they will stop taking the money as they dont know and there is nothing i can do. In any other line of work people would be sacked for this gross incompetence.
My husband has had the same. We received a letter from the CSA explaining that his case had been closed. His son had left school and joined the army. They then contacted in November and said that he owed £1200 for arrears since April and that they had made a mistake. We paid the £1200 for their mistake. We then heard nothing, although we asked for a letter from them to confirm that the case had been closed we are still waiting for a letter from them. Today my husband has received a telephone call to say that the case had been reopened but because he couldn’t remember his NI number off the top of his head they would put the reason that they were calling in writing. My husband made it clear that the case should now be closed and that if anything the CSA owed us money and that once we received this letter we were going to make sure that we had every penny back including compensation. He phoned them back with his NI number and the lady on the phone didn’t know what he had been called about and she said that she was waiting for a cheque to come back to the CSA from his ex wife, maybe we have overpaid!! I think that a stongly worded letter is in order, another one that will be ignored hey!
incompetent idiots who steal off good minded people.
