Children are now adults and CSA want arrears from me

I am at present being chased by the csa for arrears of £19,161.89. I have a couple of questions that i would like somebody to answer for me. Firstly I have never paid though the csa it has always been an agreement with my ex wife and she has never complained to me about the amount I was paying so how come I owe the csa anything? secondly even if I do owe this money why has it taken so long to tell me about these arrears (my daughters are 22 and 20) and the first i heard about this amount was earlier this year, I have letters dating back years and they say I was paying the correct amount, and now they want it all paid back in two years.

It’s just not fair and its putting a undue pressure on my present marriage and the threat of bailiffs coming round the house just stinks. Please help

  1. Do not speak them on the telephone. Get everything in writing.

Ask for a full breakdown of the ‘alleged’ arrears.

I think that I correct in saying that if the arrears are prior to 2000 the CSA cannot legally harass you for arrears.(check that).

Go to your M.P. with all of your information and tell them that you are being threatened by the CSA.

If it turns out that you do not owe any arrears consider a complaint of harassment to the police, as they have caused you to suffer alarm and distress.

Complain to the CSA, the independent case examiner and tell them that you are asking the serious fraud office to investigate their unlawful demands!

    Good luck!

  2. I agree John.
Get a full breakdown of the calculation and the payments you have made.
Many of these ‘arrears’ are pure fiction.
