Child Support Agency takes advantage of dyslexic man

I have been dealing with the CSA for just over 4 years now on my partners behalf. He is severely dyslexic and as a result of this every letter he recieved from them prior to our relationship went unanswered because he had no-one to turn to for help and was too embarressed to ask for help from other family members. Talking to the CSA on the phone just left him frustrated and angry because they then wanted information in writing and he was unable to do this. Both of his ex-wives are aware of this problem and of course realise that he is unable to deal with the issues himself. Since I have been dealing with this I have realised just how hard it is to deal with the Csa even if you can read and write.

They lose letters are rude to you on the phone and make threats to you about what will happen if you do not pay. We are currently being asked to pay for arrears that they say now amount to £17,000 but will not send us a breakdown of how this has been calculated.

When I started this battle the arrears were in fact £3,500 and we have been paying what each child is owed and the arrears for over 4 yrs. How can the amount increase and not decrease. A recent assessment has taken into account the 3 other children we have living with us as being awarded £38 a week each with the children who don’t live with us as being allowed £34 a week and they don’t live with us surely the children who live under our roof are entitled to have a life too!!Both mothers work and have partners who work and go on foreign holidays every year while we are being penalised and dis-criminated against. There is a lot more I could say about this case but I have run out of steam.

It has been refreshing to see that we aren’t the only one’s being ripped off by this totally unfair system.

  1. Omg, this mirrors our case too, I have been with my partner four years who is also dyslexic and the way they treat him is awful…surely its classed as discrimination of some sort? I too have tried to help him, in the four years we have been together we have only recieved one letter from the csa and when I have rung up on his behalf, to be told he is not on their system, this was two and a half years ago, then as of this week he has been slammed with a deo of 614.00, we have had no break down and when I phoned them they asked who I was….they didn’t have him down as living with me or our children, he had been assessed as a single man! It has now gone to the complaints department who by their own admission have said his case is a mess and many errors have been made. We are still waiting to see if the deo is going to be lifted, but looks unlikely. Also like to add he has always provided for his children who are now 18 and 21.
