Bailiffs letter threating to take goods to value of my debt

Firstly I would like to say what an informative site, it’s nice to know I’m not alone with my CSA nightmare! Ok I will not make this to painfully boring but here goes..

I have been an absent parent (Dad) for around 8 years, in that time I have paid money to my ex wife both direct and indirect (through the CSA) I first dealt with them back in 2007 after my ex thought she could squeeze a bit more out of me. They assessed my earnings but to my ex’s disgust they told me I had to pay less than I was already!! So as she had instigated the whole CSA thing I thought that sounds good to me.

So this went on up until last year when my son turned 16, I questioned the CSA on whether I need to keep making payments and they said yes as he was still in full time education which I thought was the case as I had discussed it with him and he told me he wanted to stay on at School. I had no problem with this, quite the opposite actually, I mean the fact he wanted to better himself and stay on at School was a good thing in my eyes. Anyway to cut a long story short I found out that he had left School and has been lying to me as his mother has!! So I stopped the payments, I had a couple of calls from the CSA asking me to make a payment and I refused point blank, they said she is claiming child benefit so is still entitled to support from me. So after a couple more calls to me I asked them how they knew she was getting Child benefit and if she was then why is she? They said because thats what she has told us!! uh?? So I asked them to check to see if she is still in receipt of child benefit and if she is I will pay them and then tell the DWP she is defrauding them instead. Anyway I have had a few more calls from them, I have asked for evidence that she is entitled to this money but nothing. All they are interested in doing is getting £750 off me which ok in the scheme of things isn’t much but why should I when i know she’s ripping me and the system off?

So this morning I have had a bailiffs letter land on the doormat threatening to take goods to the value of the debt! I’m fairly savvy so they won’t be coming in, but who can I speak to about this? I have exhausted all avenues within the CSA, they are completely ignorent to my questions and concerns, I don’t think I can speak to anyone there without suffering a nervous breakdown!

Regards

Rob

  1. Phone child benefit fraud helpline, you have a right to know if your son is in education, get them to chase this up as a matter of urgency…csa should of looked into this, but too bloody lazy…I would also seek help from an mp and write a letter of complaint to the csa with your concerns, keep a copy and send recorded…threaten them like they threaten you. This was the avenue we had to go down, thank goodness we did, pwc was on a right benefit scam and it saved us quite a few pennies!! Don’t give into their demands, especially if you know your right. Good luck
