Overpaid the CSA but they won’t give money back

March 17, 2011

Hi, will try to keep short as ! Basically I’ve been paying for my child through the Csa for several yrs now ( Deo ). I have had probs over the yrs, they were taking so much from me I was forced to go bankrupt, but still couldnt afford to live. They laughed at me down the phone, and Dared me to leave my good job, which I did ! Anyway, I’m now just working in a shop on min wage, but several months ago had my hours cut to just 16pw. Now earning less than £100pw I only have to pay the flat rate of £5pw finally last week I received a letter saying that I should be paying the flat rate from last August. Now, even though I do not agree, they still say I owe arrears.

For the last 7 months they been taking £52 per month too much, ( which has forced me into a payment plan to deal with debts again ) but say that I cannot have the money back as it will go towards my arrears ! If they had started taking the correct amount from when I told them about my drop in wage then they wouldnt have this extra money, so is it right that they should just keep it ! Also over the yrs I’ve totally given up on asking exactly I do still owe, as they wont tell me, all I get is ‘its around a thousand pound’ I’ve never had a breakdown on paper of whats been paid and of what I owe.

If it takes them 7 months to reduce the payments & then say I can’t have my money back, think if my wage goes up again or change jobs I’ll leave it 7 months to tell them.

All I want to do is pay for my child, but the correct amount compared to what I am earning, so totally sick of it, they have made me very ill n am seriously thinking of just ending everything, it’ll be better n a lot easier all round.

Well thanks for listening.

Mike
