CSA giving wrong advice

I was happily paying £268 per month to the csa for my two children until March 2011 when I was made redundant. I informed the csa of my change of circumstance immediatley who told me that I could either continue to pay with my redundancy money or I could stop as I was now out of work. The choice was apparently mine!! I chose to continue paying.

In July my circumstances changed again where I gained some work on a self employed basis. I informed the csa again of this change and they informed me that 3 months books will be needed to reassess my case. I explained that I was continuing to pay and asked why I needed to be reassessed. I was told because I had reported a change in circumstances. I then cancelled the original direct debit (as I didn’t want to end up paying twice!!) and gathered the information they had requested. My life got very complicated and I forgot to send my figures in at the date set. The csa did ring (once) to remind me and I apologised and sent the books in.

I now find that my case has been passed to a criminal department for non payment despite my books being sent to them. During extensive conversations on the phone (which got me absolutley nowhere) I asked where my money had gone since my redundancy as it had turned out that no payments had been made to my ex since my redundancy. I was told that I was not in credit and that the csa system does not work that way. I questioned as to where my money has gone and I could not get a clear answer. In other words they did not know.

I now have a letter stating that the csa owe me £753.95 which is £351.81 short of what I have paid since April 2011 and they say I also owe them £800. This makes no sense to me and trying to get in touch with someone who can give me some answers in becoming an impossible task.
