Unemployed and CSA still chase for money
December 2, 2010
While in full employment I payed every month my CSA money, set up direct debit and never failed to pay. From June 2009 I was unemployed and on Jobseekers. The CSA would take £5 a week from my Jobseekers allowance.
Dec 2009 my jobseekers allowance finished. I still needed to sign on to get my stamp payed and therefore no payments to the CSA. This went on until August 2010 when I went self employed.
My son (now 17, Sept 5th 2010) finished school May 2010 and has now started college 3 mornings a week (from mid October). I think he still gets EMA now since starting college.
Today I get a demand from the CSA for £3000 arrears. I called them and spoke to a woman who I could only describe as unsupportive and didn’t listen to the fact that I have been unemployed and just demanded the money because thats what the ‘SYSTEM’ says.
With just starting self employment (handyman) I’m lucky if I earn £60 a week since starting at the moment.
How can they just demand £3000?
How did they work out that amount?
How much do I really owe?
This is so sickening and any help please.
How can they just demand £3000?
Because the Government has given them ridiculous powers which they readily abuse.
How did they work out that amount?
Anybodies guess. You will need to ask them!
How much do I really owe?
Probably nothing providing there were not arrears at the time you became unemployed, and you advised them promptly of that and when the job seekes allowance terminated.
