Should I be paying CSA if the child lives with me?

I pay for my son’s maintenance via CSA and have done for 14 years, not a problem I’m happy to pay.

Three weeks ago I got a call from my son’s school (he’s in 6th form aged 16 1/2) saying that his mum didn’t want him back as their relationship has broken down. I agreed that he could come and live with me until things are sorted, or permanently if required.

My question is should I be paying CSA if he’s living with me (allbeit maybe temporarily – I just don’t know what’s going to happen she says she won’t have him back until the social services get involved and that seems to be taking a while)?

At the moment I’m paying his mother via CSA for his keep, but keeping him myself!

Absolutely not, you should not be paying your ex when your son lives with you. If anything, she should now be paying you!

Snap ! Given you sons age I would be surprised if Social Services would want to be involved and if so sure it wouldn’t be a high priority for them. I’ve been mulling over the money situation for a week or so. I know it should be me who is receiving money but suspect the minute I raise this via the CSA the situation with his mum will be miraculously resolved which I don’t think is in my sons interest. Like u I’m happy to have him here permanently or temporarily

Give the csa and the social sciences a call to inform them and find out what’s happening.

I’d be happy to have my daughter staying with me. After all we all want what’s best.
