MP’s aide, Howard Blagbrough, advises father to take out loan to pay CSA

June 8, 2012

Howard Blagbrough, an aide to Craig Whittaker, has advised a father to take out a loan to pay the CSA. The father asked for his MP’s assistance in getting his case reviewed, and this was the startling advice he received from the rather rude Blagbrough.

Here is the email trail in order – just wait for the very ‘blunt’ ending from Mr Blagbrough. We start with Howard Blagbrough’s advice:

Good Afternoon

I would thank you for your e-mail

Although I note from our records that The Child Support Agency have carried out various investigations given your circumstances. I appreciate that this has not resulted in a more positive outcome in respect of the money they are demanding you to pay, including arrears.

As there is clearly nothing further the CSA are willing to do to assist your particular case, I have written to the Independent Case Examiner to see whether they are willing to investigate the matter independently from the CSA and provide you with some additional help.

I would add that it may be worth making an appointment with the Credit Union in Halifax and/or the Citizens Advice Bureau to see whether they are able to provide you with additional help or assistance.

Many thanks and best wishes

The father responded, somehwat confused at the advice of getting a loan:

I am writing for your help with tackling the CSA agency not that i get a loan from the credit union, how will that help with this matter. that is like robbing Paul to pay Peter. Surely it is your job as a Member of Parliament to help and not fob them off with loans and not being able to help

The final word from Mr Blagbrough:

Please note we are trying to provide you with different possible solutions!!!. If you do not want our help then fine however do not snub ideas before you have listened to what other organisations have to say. Credit union if you must know try too provide people with the best advice for their own position.

It is not the duty of the MP to have to accept comments when you do not like the possible advice provided. Sorry to be blunt.

I think so many MP’s don’t realise the full extent of the CSA maladministration. Either that they are also working to cover up the huge mistakes and make their incorrect income figures look good.

I think the MPs comments are being misunderstood. I think he is suggesting some good ideas.

  • John says:

If we are ‘all in the same boat’, perhaps Howard Blagbrough, M.P. would like to take out a loan for his expenses, and then perhaps pay the loan back with interest to the tax payer.

As usual it’s one rule for them, and different rules for us!

CSA is a complete and utter shambles, and should be disbanded immediately.

What happens between parents and children has nothing to do with civil servants or politicians!

  • Sally says:

While we are all scrimping and scraping to buy food and pay bills (while making CSA payments) Mr Howard Blagborough sends a response from his ‘ipad’….. until politicians live in the ‘real’ world they will continue to fob us off with ‘patronising’ advice and assume we are to stupid to question it!!! Most of us dream of being able to afford a day out with the kids… this man can afford an ipad … that cost of an ipad would easily pay for food and bills for a family of 3 for a WHOLE MONTH!!!

We have MP’s who only pay our plight lip-service to get voted in. We have CSA employees who have been sent to prison for stealing money from us (via the CSA computer system) and we have a gorvernmet who do not see the NRP as human beings… what chance do we have???

  • chall says:

You make some good points sally.

Isn’t there a bigger picture though… It’s the MP’s/government that voted the legislation in in the first place. It’s also the MP’s/government that vote in the amendments.

It’s not just CSA employees who take money they are not entitled to have. The MP’s expenses scandal was not so unforgettable and very few where sent to prison.

It’s not just NRP’s that are not seen as human beings by the government. We are all minions, who are obligated to pay whatever is deemed fit.

Maybe it’s time a proper peoples party was running the country, consisting of members that have not lived such a privileged existence, who don’t expect such high wages and expenses to be paid to them for their services and can bring to the table expertise in booking keeping, education, health etc, etc.

Issues with the CSA only scrap the surface…

its a joke how people are treated by the csa. they look down on us like we are nothing, like we are something on the bottom of there shoes they have trod in. we are all human beings at end of the day and should be treat the same, i know the csa get it wrong most of the time and the rest of the time they balls it up. i have been devorced from my ex wife since 2004-5 now and ever since the day we split up i have made contributions to my sons upkeep. [ the marrage broke down after she cheated on me by the way ] untill march this year until she went to the csa, who then assesed me and now tell me they will take money from my new partner [ of 3 years now ] child tax creds… how can this be right, how can they legally take my partner childrens money, its discusting how they [ csa ] get away with that, something needs to change and change soon. i disagree with fathers who dont pay to support the up bringing of there children but i do agree with fathers who try there best to do there bit but the ex partners are greedy and want every penny they can get, reading about the MP who sugested someone get a loan to pay for there kids, haha that mans a joke. ok for him to make wild sugestions while sat in nice office on his comfy chair infront of blazing fire with his ipad sat on his knee, i say to you mr MP go take a run and jump, you know nothing about what we go through, keep them sort of sugestions to yourself..

    Michael,

Have the agency been dealing with a complaint regarding your case?

If so, if you have received a final response from the agency in respect of such and you remain unhappy with the outcome you can contact the ICE yourself http://www.ind-case-exam.org.uk/en/pdf/leaflets/our-service.pdf

As we are unsure of your circumstance, you can, if you wish, let us know some details and we could perhaps offer some help.

I think it should be made known to the whole general public seeing as we are all taxpayers how the CSA waste our money on an Agency that is failing miserably and also the compensation that is paid out for their maladministration, and also expenses for private companies doing the work. Why should every tax payer be responsible for collection of maintenance when a relationship breaks down seeing as the pwc now gets to keep benefits and maintenance if they are fortunate enough to receive it? The CSA was set up to take the burden off the taxpayer of single parents but over the years it seems quite the opposite has happened.

Re the i-pad he can afford it because us taxpayers pay him to have one, another expense!!!

  • Damon says:

The CSA are a complete disgrace. Sexist towards men in particular and drive parents without care to the point of suicide through their maladministration and disgraceful work practices. I sent a 5 page complaint to them 12 months ago and still havent had it acknowledged. Bunch of oxygen thiefs who really do abuse their powers. Well said Carol!

Must question this, is it really ‘independent’ when the ice and csa are both a part of the DWP?

You forgot to mention – [email protected] which is the email address of this branch of the DWP that is responsible for investigating another branch of the DWP, not very ‘independent’ is it?

I think this comment pretty much sums the whole situation up as accurately as possible. I don’t think it is like the MP’s expenses scandal, I cant remember anyone commiting suicide over that but there are reporst of people killing themselves as a result of the csa getting involved in their lives.
