Father faces terrorism charges over CSA prank

September 6, 2010

A member of a father’s rights organisation could be facing a jail sentence under anti-terrorism laws over a package he sent to the Child Support Agency.

Martin Matthews, of Bookham, Surrey, made an appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court last week for sending a nappy packed with talcum powder to the CSA office based in Clearbrook House, Plymouth.

The 43-year-old, who told the court that his name was General good Shafting II, faced charges under the 2001 Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act for sending a harmful substance in the post.

Speaking to website thisissurreytoday.co.uk, Mr Matthews, who has a 13-year-old son, spoke about how he felt that the CSA were no help when it came to him providing for his child, and how unhappy he was at how they treated him over his unpaid maintenance.

He commented:

“If my son needs something and tells me about it, I will provide it. My son is my pride and joy and so I provide it immediately – that is the way it works.

“Whether it is right or wrong, that’s up to other people, but that’s what I do.”

Mr Matthews, who is paying back £3,000 to the CSA, seemed unrepentant over his actions. He said:

“It was funny, humorous and I don’t think I have done anything wrong. It is my satirical sense of humour, as far as I’m concerned,

“From where I was sitting, I had to keep a straight face but I found it difficult because I think it is really, really funny.”

Mr Matthews’ lawyer has asked for the case to be dismissed, but it is understood that Matthews could be facing time in jail. He said:

“If they want to make an example out of me and imprison me, then I have got to pay some price for my actions.”

Mr Matthews is due to appear before South Western Magistrate’s Court at the beginning of December.

Yet another example of decent people being criminalised by this ‘flawed’ system and shambles known as CSA/CMEC. The lunatics are definitely running the asylum!

  • Brokenfather says:

Is talc an explosive substabnce now then, or was it a used nappy perhaps lol?

  • Allan Morrell says:

I would beleive the satirical humour is in respect to the CSA would declare a child in need of nappies, why not throw in the talc 2 eh! I would also say this in court, so because of not having the finance to pay with, I provided a nappy and talc 4 u 2 forward on, although I would have written this as an enclosed letter, It would be in the evidence presented at court, therefore a written statement for the action taken. This would prove innocent of any terrorism act. It's prank mail, thereis no law agains tsending pranks through the mail.

actually I feel its only a matter of time before they do receive a “real bomb” id pat whoever sent it on the back

  • In a CSA Nightmare!! says:

I’m surprised no-one has taken a rifle/gun into a CSA office by now!!

  • Alan Parker says:

serves him right for being such an idiot

  • CSA are scum says:

@Alan Parker – you are obviously a CSA employee – you are a cunt! all CSA staff deserve to be tortured – an eye for an eye as that is what the spineless scum do to innocent NRP’s. I welcome a scenario similar to the Oklahoma bombing – I would not shed a tear in fact I would go and celebrate go to the pub and get extremely pissed up at the good news. Anyone who works for the CSA/CMEC deserves to die a slow and very terrifying painful death. Then it will serve them right for being such incompetent idiots! CSA /CMEC are nothing more than a pack of brainwashed, lying, thieving, traitorous, spineless lowlife scum.

Where do you work “CSA are scum”?
