CSA reassess me after 12 years
July 9, 2009
My daughters are 19 and 17… I am about to be re-assessed at a time when I have recovered financially after 12 years of hardship and stress caused by the CSA system.
Having helped finance my eldest and her 1st year at uni’ and also her driving lessons.
Still paying maintainence for youngest now but having had it dropped within a week I am now being re-assessed due to an error..!!
When does this system become fair to the decent fathers.. and if a mother has a fella move in how come my maintainence increases.????????

You are only obliged, under CSA rules, to pay for children in full time education. College and Uni is FURTHER education so your contributions are not mandatory for this period of education. Your ex is under an obligation to advise the CSA of ‘change in circumstance’ and one daughter leaving full time education would be an example, so you may have overpaid for a period.
‘Fair’ is not a term the CSA would be familiar with.
Basically , you should be paying 20% of take home pay for 2 children or 15% for 1- although this figure may be reduced if, for example, you have the children of a new partner living with you.
This is not affected by your ex having a new partner, not that I can find.
They can only apply the Rules, don’t take any cr*p off them, ask for a copy of how they arrived at their calcs and challenge it if you think it’s incorrect. Check to ensure the original assessment was correct as overpayments can be credited against shortfalls elsewhere.
Look at CSL 303 & 109
Hi Rob,
Child maintenance is payable all the time that Child Benefit is being paid and the child is: *aged under 16; or
*under 19 and in full-time non-advanced education
The definition of full time education is more than 12 hours a week of study on a course up to and including A level standard.
If the child is in advanced or higher education they would no longer qualify for child maintenance.

My son is 14 yrs old. I have only received 1 payment from my ex VIA the CSA. I personally feel the CSA are a waste of time…
To all of you that have just received demand letters for £1000’s. I hope you have to pay up and it cripples you. You had a child, a responsibility, which you CHOSE to ignore.
I have no sympathy for any parent male or female that neglects their children.
Kate that is a terrible thing to say not all fathers are bad….my husband pays £300 a month for his son to a previous marriage. He also provides him with clothes, shoes and anything else he might need. we have him nearly every weekend (which his mother loves) we give him a good christmas and birthday.. to be fairhis mother is on a good screw, my two children don’t get half as much as him. they work these payments out but don’t take into consideration all other bills and expenses a family need. they have even requested my earnings and payments went up due to this, so not only is my husband paying but so am i, for a child thats not mine….CSA can wreck peoples lives…..
