Can’t afford to see my daughter after CSA deductions

May 22, 2010

I have an 11 yr old daughter which i’ve always taken care off since birth. The csa is now taking approx 40% off my wages directly from my employer which leaves me in a no win situation.

I now have to stay with my elderly grandmother who i also pay lodgings to. i’m currently working for minimum wage leaving me with barely no money to survive. I also have my daughter staying with me for more than 101 days a year which i’m struggling to afford now this has happened. I understand i owe (the state) money but what i cant understand is why this is more important than my child missing out on her spending time with her father as it’s now looking doubtful to continue with this arrangement.

Is this correct that they can leave you in such a mess & having no money left to live & get to work ect

The whole financial side of caring for a child needs a damn good shake up.

You care for your child for 30% of the time, yet you receive 0% of the financial assistance that the government provides and still have to constibute towards the 70% of the time that the other parent is responsible for the care. The time you care for your child and how that is funded, like all non resident parents (mostly fathers), really doesnt matter to the government and the CSA.

That principle still works even if the are is 50:50 because the law wil treat the parent that receives the child benefit as superior (mostly mothers).

    Go figure ……….

    Hi David Drummond,

When did your case commence with the agency on or after 03/03/03 OR before?

What date did the agency first contact with you?

I’m sorry but the CSA can only take 20% for one child. They can’t take more then 40% off your wages. I am struggling to understand how they are taking so much and via a DEO unless you have been uncommunicative and owe then a very substantial sum of money.
Please stop whining about the unfairness of it all, if you have evaded them in the past and haven;t bothered to lodge an appeal or cannot lodge one then you have to pay.
To much are fathers allowed to make up all sorts of reasons not to pay for a child they helped create. Mothers get next to no money for their children contrary to popular belief, the state does not pay for school lunches (if you work its tough) school uniform, clothes nevermind al the little things. Child tax credit is designed to pay for cost of living i.e. food, water, electric. And its only enough to cover that if you don’t use any heating and shop at Iceland.
So you have her for 101 days a year…do overtime. Your elderly grandmother could help by not charging you lodgings…or does she do this so you can claim benefit for rent as you are on minimum wage? Ex dads are quite capable of having their children for weekends without it costing the earth. She’d be happy just to spend time with you. What is this really all about?

So many unanswered questions, so many possible conclusions. I don’t think you have given the full picture.

Having received an email reply to my comment. I would like to stand by what I said above. While everyone is different the rules of the CSA are the same. 40% is all they can take off your wages. 60% is protected income. Emailing me isn’t going to change that.

I am not trying to insult people, I am trying to stop people like you spreading misinformation. No I don’t know the full circumstances, I only know what you have written please see my comment “I don’t think you have givent he full picture”. Perhaps you should read more?

You put your circumstance on public show for all to see, you are going to get comments you don’t like the sound of. My solution for you then is to not post?

I have not posted rubbish, I have posted from my own experience.
