Advance payments from the CSA
October 3, 2011
Hi Folks,
Just thought i’d let you know that advance payments from the CSA are actually Real. I wrote on here a few months ago with my problems regarding CSA but after years of me pursuing them, finding out information regarding special payments, and continuously fighting the csa, I have finally had an advance payment of over £10,000 for the arrears on my maintenance which the csa admitted was their fault. Although it was a lengthy, stressful and sometimes soul destroying experience I have persevered and WON!! Yeah!!
I still cant quite take it in, And after the decision went in my favour it took less than 10 days for the payment to go into my bank. So if you know you are right and the csa wrong then keep fighting its worth it in the end. And No the ICE people did nothing for me, in fact i’m still waiting for an investigating officer to take on my case 15 months after they accepted my case.
Good luck to you all, xxx

Hope some of this actually goes towards your child as you post just makes out you’ve had a small lottery win
I pity the bloke she nicked it from. How’s he living now?
Yes Bob the money went to the children! I worked hard to bring my 2 daughters up, i worked 2 jobs to make sure i provided for the children so that they didnt go without what they needed. It wasnt my fault nor their fathers that the csa didnt do their job properly, my children are 25 and 23 years old and i am a grandma!
A Lottery win would have been a hell of a lot easier to come by,
And Miles you pity the father all you want, we split up 21 years ago and he since remarried and brought up 2 other children that werent his, and as for nicking it off him he only has to pay 20 a month towards this, it was an ADVANCE payment for what i was entitled too, if i had of been on benefits it would have gone to the treasury and not my children. And selfishly or not I feel my children deserved it rather than the government.
well done alicia, for you nd ur children.take no notice of these bitter fools.
thank you ellsbells x
So the CSA can put their hands on 10 grand to pay out. Now I know where my payments have gone! Staff pay and bonuses, and a slush fund!
So you’ve winged and moaned – why? Because you had a family! Poor you, and now the tax payer has given you £10k!! Unbelievable!
I was a single parent for years….I received nothing from anyone. I did pay out plenty for the child that didn’t live with me leaving with nothing for the one that did! All I ended up with was a spell on a mental health ward for my efforts!
My new wife and my sister were both single parents and no one supported them either – they are proud they supported themselves! No-one came running over the hill with a bag of cash there!
Miles you need to sort yourself out! That money is given due to incompetence by the CSA for not getting it right or moreso that the nrp not supporting their children! I received £17,500 few years ago and have tried to let people know what they need to do – you will prob find that the nrp will pay in instalments over the years to pay back, whilst the children have gone without, suffered financial hardship due to the selfishness of a parent.
So, down the back of whose sofa did the CSA find £10,000?
Anyone received a letter demanding fictitious arrears?
Does that mean I’m going to get an advance payout….something tells me no, and nor will I want it. I see what these bastards do to second families. Alicia good luck to you, and Karen not everything is so black and white, every case is different and not all nrp’s are selfish parents.
3 children. Two kidnapped by mum. One tells mum where to go, and stays with me. He was aged 11 at the time, and I have raised him on my own. He is now in his 20’s, has 9 GCSe’s, 3 top grade A levels, and an honours degree. He has a good job and is credit to me and society. How am I treated by the government? Like scum!
Ex went went to the CSA and they hound and harass me straight away. I counter claim because she is not paying for the child with me. She is given a nil assessment. She did not pay any money for 3 years, where I was paying from the start. In essence I was keeping her and 3 children.
She had £77,000 in divorce, She has had, to date £34,000 in maintenance. She has also had £40,000 inheritance from her mothers estate, and £30,000 from her uncles estate. Total £171,000………….and I am still getting screwed by the complete and utter shambles, not fit for purpose CSA. She also has a hidden bank account with over £50,000 in it. I know, because I get the bank letters. I have told the CSA. They do nothing! She also got caught over claiming £7,000 in tax credits!
The CSA should means test her, tell her that she has enough income, stop her maintenance claim from me, and refuse any further involvement on her behalf!
You need to sort yourseklf out Karen. She says it wasn’t the father’s fault….why go to the CSA in the first place, If he was paying what he could afford? If he wasn’t paying what he could reasonable afford then it muist have been his failt…
Doesn’t make sense..
Karen you also seem to have forgotten about equality! You want the kids to be yours, you want total equality but you want the man to support you!
Karen – how did you manage to get an advance payment – please giveme some advice!! I am totally supportive of both of you – why should the NRP ‘forget’ that they have children and a responsibility towards them simply because they may happen not be living with their children? I am owed £88000 in maintenance arrears fromthe CSA and my ex has ducked and dived for the last 14 years – evading the CSA at every turn while I too have struggled to bring my daughter up alone – working multiple jobs, long hours, returning to Uni to get better jobs etc etc. No – we don’t ‘need’ someone to support us – we have already done that – it is a question of what is right and where responsibilities lie. Both parents have a responsibility to provide for their children – morally, emotionally and financially and the CSA have a responsibility to ensure that NRP live up to their financial responsibilities. If they fail to do this – there is a case to answer. Any advice on how I can approach this issue with the CSA?? Miles – we single parents are often tax payers too – why should an ex-partner ignore their responsibilities for years and not be called to account? It would be exactly the same whether that expartner were the mother or the father of the child. Most of us would never walk away from our children and ‘forget’ that they cost money to raise – but there are some who manage to very successfully. This is the issue here – not anything to do with people winging and maoning because they have a family. Get a grip. These are the people raising the children – feeding clothing and educating them – are they now due some redress of balance when the other parent has abandoned their children financially??
Miles, this seems to hav gotten to you so il explain best i can, we split up over 21 years ago, the children lived with me, their father could hav had any access he wanted,we both moved on with our lives, i was working and father was paying through court an amount he could afford, neither of us had a problem with that, then i lost my job and had to claim benefits for a couple of weeks and in doing so i was made to give the fathers details (that is what happened in the early csa days), upon doing so i was then told that the csa had taken over the maintenance from the court.
I went back to work shortly after that (as in weeks not years), and received no maintenance, i phoned the csa and was told they were dealing with it, so i left them to it. After a few more years the children were of school leaving age so i assumed i wouldnt hear any more about maintenance, until i received a call from the csa saying they had just started working on my case, as in arrears.
That is why i received the payment, not because i was demanding money from my ex, i never once contacted him over this, I have paid tax all my working life and i feel that the csa should and could have done their jobs properly and even if i hadnt of wanted it they would have collected it for the treasury. Thats the whole story, no demanding money from my ex, no arguments and fighting, nothing, just the government not doing their job right.
Well it all sounds a tad odd. I know what you mean about being forced thru the CSA – it hapended to me. Tho he could have supported you anyway, we shouldn’t need a CSA to tell us to pay a reasonable amount of Child support. Tho he was probably upset with the CSA so didn’t.
Miles, and Bod, you sour bitter idiots, leave this woman alone. She got what she deserves, hope you do! Sounds like you had a bad experience then start bullying women that prob have been struggling to look after children. I will never look at this site again but wanted you to know how sorry i am to have read your sick comments. Bitter and twisted world. Women are stronger than you think!!!!! despite your attempts at changing that.. good will always win over bad!
CSA now CMS needs to be overhauled if I am honest. They need a innovative strategy that meets the needs of 21st century single parents or parents with children from former relationships. I’m not sure the revamped CMS quite does it.
We do not live in the perfect world were all NRP’s (Non resident parents) pay child maintenance and support their children from previous relationships. If we did, there would be no such need for a government service such as CMS.
I am new to this site and have read a few posts and it is interesting seeing views from both sides of the table. What we all need to understand is that everyone’s situation is different and there are some individuals who are reliant on government support others who can reach an amicable agreement without intervention.
I am currently pursuing an advance payment of arrears from CMS former CSA due to mal-administration from the department which led to an excessive amount of arrears being billed in one sum to my ex partner. I will keep you posted on the outcome but if anyone is interested in the criterion CMS apply they can be found through an FOI from a Mr Robertson, just Google advance payment of arrears Mr Robertson CSA, it incorporates many interesting facts about the CSA.
